£10k to £15k Estate Car Ideas

Collective knowledge / opinion ask.

We are due to hand back our lease XC60 next year. Its been a good car but we've found rear leg room and boot a bit on the small side at times moving young kids and their paraphernalia around. It's also a Diesel but the vast majority of its use is relatively local (say 10/15 mile journeys) with some long journeys (during non covid times) mixed in. As we will probably hold on to the car for a few years the Mrs would like at least similar mod cons vs the XC60 so things like heated seats etc.

We've pretty much decided that we'd like a decent sized auto estate as a replacement somewhere in the £10k to £15k range. We were looking at a 2015/2016 D5 XC70 (still diesel) at it was a good mix of SUV and estate and has the advantage of roof bars, AWD, good reliability record and likely low depreciation over the next few years.

We've also looked at Mondeo Estates and S-Max, both seem decent with petrol options. I also like the look of SKODA Superb estates, specifically the 2.0 220BHP DSG version.

Two questions really... Anything particular I should be wary of when looking at XC70/V70, Superb and Mondeo estates? Any obvious options I'm missing in all this or other recommendations from the hive mind?

The Mondeo is the nicest steer look for a Titanium with the X Pack as that get's you full leather etc.

An estate worth seeking out is the BiTDI 240 Passat they're a rare find but a good car the extra grunt over the Mondeo would at least get me giving it a test driveper:

2.0T Superb SE L 220 not as good a steer as the Mondeo but fit & finish are on the same level so it'll come down to personal preference.

All gearboxes benfit from regular fluid changes but it's very important to (on the VAG & Ford cars) to make sure this is done on schedule.

When anyone says 'hive mind' in these posts its really just ZX10R NIN with the autotrader links

We couldn't get on with a 'normal height' estate, both of us are tall and trying to lift kids etc through rear doors didn't really work. An XC70 popped up locally with fairly low miles and about every toy you could think of thrown at it (including the official polestar upgrade) so we bought it and will just end up taking it for a run every now and again.

Not really much fun to drive but has enough grunt to be liveable and will do the job for my other half.
