Yaris GRMN or Fiesta ST?
Discussion
I've got the itch to buy a b Road blaster and have narrowed it down to a low mile GRMN or a low mile, ST2 with lots of options
I know ultimately its down to my preference etc but what are peopkes thoughts on the following given its just to own till next summer...
1 - easiest of the two to sell on?
2 - one to suffer leastvfurther depreciation?
These are not my deciding factors but certainly figure in my choice
Thanks

Easiest to sell on would probably be the Fiesta, but the lowest deprecation would be with the Yaris.
As interesting and rare as the Toyota is, the Ford would get my vote.
Interesting choice - with the caveat that I'd have to drive them both to be sure, I think it'd be that the Yaris would be my choice - supercharged instead of turbo, LSD, not quite as firm in the suspension for road driving, and rarer of course which is always fun.As interesting and rare as the Toyota is, the Ford would get my vote.
I think you would need to drive them, I think people are forgetting how good the Fiesta is because the Yaris is new and gets such amazing reviews but it is 10 plus grand more by the time you actually get one as the Ford you can get quite good discounts on and the Yaris will be list if you can get one with the fancy diffs and stuff.
I suspect the Yaris is perhaps getting a bit over hyped and some of the novelty may wane a bit, depends on whether Toyota stick to the numbers mentioned.
Depreciation wise, well, the Fiesta doesn't fare too badly and even if the Yaris drops less, it may be more in terms of cash just by virtue of it costing more in the first place.
Would probably give the Yaris the nod as there must be something in it, but when spending that much I would want to drive them both, ideally back to back, be interesting to see a road test of them compared like that.

Wrong Yaris.. I suspect the Yaris is perhaps getting a bit over hyped and some of the novelty may wane a bit, depends on whether Toyota stick to the numbers mentioned.

I'd definitely want to be testing the GRMN before making any commitment. Finding a decent one could be a challenge. If you go for the fiesta, I'd definitely be getting one with a diff fitted (or price for that to be added).

I would still go to Yaris, because sc and not turbo.
Hi , I’ve got a GRMN and it’s a great car the engine particularly is a peach don’t for get they used it in the lotus elise sc . The suspension is on the firm side , it does not like pot holes ! They need avoiding. I’ve had it 18 months now and still use it every day , interior wise it’s pretty basic but that’s not what it’s about , if you can stretch to the GR try that out as well it looks a beast , I went down for a look at my local dealer today , lovely thing
forgot to mention the lsd it works a treat you can really feel it pulling you in .

Thanks to all for taking the time to reply and give opinions! Sorry for the tardy follow up
Yeah both are used, sub 10k miles
ST2 is very low miles, utterly mint has most options but no LSD but oddly owner specified sunroof, BandO sound, nav etc but didnt want LSD. Ive read in 'fast car' mag that on road use the Diff is not really necessary but I wonder if when I sell it will be difficult because everyone wants the LSD?
The GRMN is what it is I guess but they seem slow sellers and wonder once the GR Yaris takes grip next year nobody will want the lesser 1st gen Yaris GRMN?

Not sold on the looks of the Yaris. The engine and other oily bits look to be great but i think the only version that appeals to me is the new GR.
Despite the fact there are a few GRMN for sale on autotrader the little Yaris is a rare beast (about 90 in the UK ) , I’ve had mine 18 months now and I’ve not seen another on the road , I quite like that . ST fiestas are 2 a penny, that’s not to say the ST is a bad car quite the opposite . To me this fact makes the GRMN feel special. Most average joes don’t have a clue what the Yaris is , this can also be fun ! I would love to own the new GR Yaris , but obviously it is very different to the GRMN and appeals to a completely different set of customers. My Yaris is my first supercharged car I’ve owned and it’s been epic, instant throttle response in a really lightweight car , great recipe in anyone’s book , 1135kg I think from memory. Get a test drive see what you make of it .
I've got a Mk8 perf pack and it's a fantastic car. I didn't notice the diff until I got the Revo software, with the extra torque you get a much greater sensation of the differential biting into the tarmac as you apply power out of a corner. If you're keeping the car stock I don't know if you'd miss it. The turbo 3 is actually quite a characterful engine, it's not a zinger but it feels muscular and scrappy, more like a pitbull than a whippet. The other thing is, especially mapped it'a a properly quick car. Surprisingly so.
I haven't driven the GRMN but I do really like the look of them. I'd guess at it being a sharper B-roader but more compromised and maybe not quite as fast? I'd love a go in one

The performance looks to be very similar for both cars , the GRMN with 212bhp slightly more power , does the ST have overboost function? , the GRMN 0-62 dash is slightly compromised as it does not quite reach this figure in 2nd gear , so needs and extra gear shift , however it does make it feel quicker than the stated figures , I’ve had no trouble keeping up with much more exotic cars even in a straight line . Same with the ST, 2nd tops out at just over 55 I think and it's boost-limited til 3rd anyway. I was mostly guessing with the ST being quicker, it's quicker on track tests because it came with Pilot Super SportsI've had my grmn now for around 3 months.
It feels like a old school hot hatch
Engine is strong
Lsd works great, really drags you around a corner when wanted
Brakes are very strong
Clutch pedal is heavy & you can 'feel' what the clutch is doing
On the flip side economy is absolutely dire but the supercharger whine makes up for it in my eyes.
Mine is due back in the dealers to make sure its had the latest software tweak for the supercharger.
I looked at all sorts but stuck with Toyota as 5 year warranty & the dealers can't seem to help you enough.
