2k - 3.5k Reliable Workhorse
Discussion
I'm looking for a reliable Mon-Fri commuting vehicle, 25 motorway miles a day.
I'm into cars but no real knowledge or understanding specifically when looking at older vehicles with high mileage as I've always bought/leased new.
Having trawled through the forums there's quite a number of vehicles which is making things a bit overwhelming. Octavias, Insignias, 3 Series, Passats, etc...
I'm looking for a top 5 which you'd recommend so i can narrow down my search. Preferably a saloon or estate but don't mind a hatch. It has to tick the following boxes, Reliable, relatively nice interior and Nippy (nothing daft, just an engaging drive maybe 7/8 secs 0-60).
Also, is there any tips or golden rules when buying high mileage. E.g. Don't buy over a certain amount of miles? Say 100k? And is Diesel or Petrol more suitable for my 25 motorway miles a day.
Thank you.

Normally I'd say go for a petrol but you could get a diesel as you'll be doing the type of journey that suits a diesel, in which case a Mercedes C220 fits the bill:

The drivetrains are bulletproof & they're a good car for eating up the miles.
