Rodius/Sedona/Grand Voyager

These are the 3 I've narrowed it down to for my small camper. I know each of them has the space to comfortably sleep in with the bike stored in too and a camping toilet. The Rodius is easily the largest and you can get a good one for less than the other 2, but it comes with that horrible old Merc 5 pot diesel that's absolutely gutless and lacks any refinement. The Sedona is smaller but would drive much nicer according to reviews despite being slower but I've read about oil pump failures and fuel pump failures being an issue. The Chrysler seems like it'd be the most comfortable but the auto boxes are apparently chocolate. Has anyone run any of them that can give me an insight into reliability? I sway mostly to the Rodius currently. I'm gonna measure up at XC90 and a Forester next week although I've pretty much ruled them out.

As someone who's had the 2.7 5 pot it's far from a horrible engine (ask drivers of early Sprinters if they found them gutless) when starting one on a cold morning they're not at their best a bit rough on idle & sluggish but once warmed up they're good.

Now if 165bhp 295 lb ft isn't enough a remap will see you with 210-220bhp with 365-375 lbft the pther thing with the 2.7 is that it's bulletproof when it comes to reliability, the biggest factor will be if you can live with the looks?

What about the Toyota Previa?

I thought it was pretty terrible in my ML, I've heard hit and miss stories about the 270 unit regarding injector issues. I like the look of the Rodius and price wise it's spot on, whereas a decent Previa or Elgrand is more than I'm wanting to spend. I've ruled the Sedona out after the owners club all told me how poor they are reliability wise. How was your 2.7 reliability wise?

Never missed a beat in a 80k I had it but I did have to replace an alternator & changed injector number 5 as it started to leak, I then replaced all the injectors as I upgraded the Turbo/Intercooler/fuel pump etc.

I then added another 60k on this setup & then sold it with 170k on the clock to a friend, he still has it with 215k on the clock & hasn't touched apart from servicing every 10k.

I was looking at Sedonas at one point (in my case for carting mountain bikes around and general "domestic van" duties), but was put off by tales of expensive problems with engines, electrics, HVAC and rust.

Ended up with a mk3 Ford3 Galaxy instead, which hasn't been faultless (mine needs glow plugs, which are an awkward job to fit, and some of the interior trim is pretty crap quality) but it's big, boxy, drives well for a big MPV, and the 2.0 diesel engine is pretty good. Underpinnings are shared with the Mondeo, and that 2.0 diesel is fitted to loads of Ford/PSA/Volvo products, so parts are easy to find and generally cheap.

It swallows an upright mountain bike with the front wheel off quite comfortably, and that's with the seats folded flat rather than removed. You'd certainly get 3 bikes in like this, possibly 4 at a squeeze.

Might be worth considering anyway!

Ruled the Sedona and Grand Voyager out after both their owners club told me they were too troublesome. The MK3 Galaxy was high on my list but all under £1500 seem too ropey and for £2k I'd likely just go for an Elgrand instead. I'm going to measure up a Forester and an XC90 next week but I'm pretty set on the Rodius now despite a few reservations about the engine/injectors. Cheers for the help
