Jaguar XE Diesel

Hi all,

Thinking about picking up a Jaguar XE. Will give it a good run 70-mile motorway run twice a week, and then the other days my wife will take it to work on a 15-mile round trip. So approx it will do around 215 miles per week.

Would it be even worth going for a diesel with this mileage? Or shall I stick to petrol?

• Will be a 17 plate I'm looking at with approx 65k on the clock

A friend had one for three years and loved it - very comfy and economical and never went wrong. If you get a good one with full FSH and good vibes go for it - friend replaced it with a new I-Pace! Lucky sod.

That sounds fine with that usage in mind a diesel will be fine, they're good cars.

Now the tempting thing is do I go for the 17 plate which is approx 11k or go full fat and use my Dad's JLR discount to get a 1-year-old ex-management vehicle for 22k.

I’d say £11k depreciation on an XE in 2 years is heavy so I’d be sticking with the cheaper one...

Personally I wouldn't sink 22k into a mainstream car that'll depreciate at a rate, I'd use your Dad's discount to get a last of the line 3.0 Supercharged V6 XE that'll depreciate slower & imo feel worth the 22k everytime you start it.

The 2.0 diesel is awful. I an extended test drive an auto 2.0 180 back in 2018 when I was replacing my F30 320d manual.

The 320d was miles quicker and more flexible. The 180bhp Jag felt like it had 120bhp.

In the end I got an F30 330d.

I've had my fair share on BMW's since the 80's, definitely time for a change! Will test drive and see what it feels like.....
