Online car buying sites...

Has anyone actually had success with online car comparison websites, in particular the one that has a popular YouTube channel?
I find the dealers extremely dodgy, I tried to buy a BMW from one a few years ago - travelled the 100 mile journey to them and after two hours there he said they had made an error on the quote, despite it being confirmed with them in advance of the journey.
Fast forward a few years to this week, another BMW, and the dealer is offering c. 10% off, but the GFV is well down on other dealers, and I can't make the numbers on their quote add up - it's coming out exactly the same as the dealer offering 5% off...
