My Final Lease?
Discussion
Currently leasing a BMW 8 Series for £282 a month and £2.5k upfront.
Got in my mind that this is the top of my car and leasing game, another offer like this will never happen again.
We all know with leasing its less than 25% of the cars value for the first two years, under 20% is great.
8 Series and Volvo V90 I had before both under 20%.
But this year, the deals have been very poor, they might come back next year, but if they don't I am not sure what to do.
Am i missing out on not keeping a car for years and years? I do get bored of cars, the Volvo I only had for 12 months.
I have always wanted to try doing more track days, only done 1 and it was good. However, would only do 5 a year tops.
I also feel if I get a car with the right features, I'd not want to change it for the commute, then get another car just for the weekend blast and track days.
8 Series is amazing, I like driving it and it's always fun.
Volvo was great for commute, especially with its lane keep assist, but it was boring… very boring and the MPG was horrendous for how slow it was. Would I get this problem getting a boring reliable car for my daily?
The main risk i see is, getting a used car, I would need to keep it years and years to make it better than leasing.
My car history is
Hyundai Accent £500, Fiesta ST first gen £14K new, C63 AMG £35K used, lost £15k in two years in depreciation, which put me off buying cars, Fiesta ST second gen lease, Mazda MX-5 lease, Golf R lease, Volvo V90 lease and finally 8 Series.
8 Series isn't due back till June 2022 so got a bit of time to think about this.
In my list below, id rank them in opposite order. So number 4 being the best solution in my mind at the moment.
Essentials for commuter car
Android Auto (Toyota/Lexus are JUST introducing this, so will need to buy a car from this year)
Cruise Control, adaptative, lane keep assist or autopilot would be better, but basic cruise is ok.
5 doors
Petrol or hybrid. Do mixed driving, including short journeys so no diesels.
Options i see are below;
1. Buy Tesla Model 3 at over £40k in cash. PCH is £2.5k down and £470 a month for 36 months.
Saw a chart showing electric car worth value up to 700K miles, but an ICE car is worthless at 200K miles?
2. Buy Lexus/Toyota/Honda 2nd hand for £15k and keep it till it dies. Also buy cheap MX5 under £5k for track.
3. Buy all-rounder, Suzuki Swift Sport or Fiesta ST3 gen 3 with LSD for £15k and keep it till it dies, also take on track.
4. Keep leasing and also buy cheap MX5 under £5k for track.
Thanks all.

An electric car having value upto 700k miles? Where has that figure come from?
I imagine there's nothing to back that up currently. I think the issue with electric cars currently is the technology is moving forward so fast that its very difficult to predict long term values, what is current now could quickly become obsolete.
If inwas.going to go electric currently I would be going either lease or PCP so I had an easy get out further down the line but thats just my opinion.

That 8 Series price doesn’t compute for me...
Assuming a 2 year term that’s about 9k for a 75k car (no options). That’s about 12% versus your yardstick of 20%!
I think he said "under 20%".Assuming a 2 year term that’s about 9k for a 75k car (no options). That’s about 12% versus your yardstick of 20%!
Prices have gone up. Silly deals are few and far between (but they are still around). But they might get back down to historically low levels next year. I'll also switch to cash if not, after informally extending. I'll also consider buying the car (3008) if they let me do that and at a good price.
What is the priority and the available spend? I had a run of 2 decent value leases but couldn't find anything at what I thought was good value to lease and of the size/type I needed so I just bought a new to me second hand car outright. If you are just focussed on getting the best lease deal available at a given time then you might miss the bigger picture.
