Bmw m140i to what?
Discussion
Hi all,
Have had a Bmw m140i for about a year now but haven’t quite warmed to the car as I’d hoped. Great overall package though.
I’m not into modifying my cars and like to keep them stock if possible. The drawbacks for me mainly are :
- harsh ride (non adaptive) I know adaptive is a lot better but couldn’t find one with that unfortunately.
- engine / exhaust sound is severely lacking
- handling is just ok (I know it’s a 1 series after all)
- the looks.. I knew that when I bought it but now just find it so dull. Great car for blending in however
So, I do want move on to something else.. my eyes are on two cars, namely the F Type R coupe and C63 coupe.
Budget would be maximum £43k.
Any experience of these two cars? Also any buying advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Thanks for some suggestions..
The Alfa was definitely a consideration but more keen on a coupe (no kids etc) and not keen on taking Alfa’s questionable reliability on.. a few rival reviews I’ve seen have ended with it not making it to the end of the test
Amazing car though!
M2 cp.. I test drove one and handling is in another league to the m140i. Agree with the looks. Could add that to the list as was contemplating an m4 cp too

The F Type & C63 are very far apart in how they'll feel when driving even if the performance is similar, what is it you want from the car over the 140? More noise/more engagement at low as well as at high speed?
If the answers yes to the above then I'd be looking for a proper sportscar rather than a Sports Saloon/Coupe.
I'd say the Lotus Evora ticks every box & they're a rare sight but finding one will be the hardest part, you may have to up your budget a smidge & haggle hard:

V10 R8 hard to find but you can get one on budget

Or you can get a very nice last of the line V8 for you're budget:

4S
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202012197...
GTS

Out of the Sports Saloons it's the C63 S Premium that's the pick, they're great cars as well as being good fun

But you may find the last of the line 6.2 507 Editions more engaging as well as better depreciation wise:

The M2/4's will still have a chunk of depreciating to do.
There is a car a lot of people dismiss but it's every bit as much as a drivers car as a Carrera GTS with more performance & that's the GT-R:
Something like this Track Pack car (which means you get a Nismo Shell unlike the Track Edition cars) lighter wheels etc are a rare find but adds another layer of involvement & they're very rare to find for sale.
