Convertible diesel

Asked on here a few weeks ago about a good mile muncher (270 mile round trip weekly and another 50 miles in the week) was after an estate, but after thinking about it I have my RS6 Advant so thinking of getting a convertible
Max I want to spend is £4000, thinking Volvo C70 d5, Audi 30tdI any other suggestions

What’s the RS6 for if not a daily / mile muncher? If your RS6 is your ‘fun’ car, might you want to consider instead selling it and getting a diesel daily and a proper, compromised fun car (2 seats, impractical etc.)?

I'd go for a CLK320cdi (I know you said convertible but hear me out) once you drop all the windows away (& pop the sunroof if you find one with one) & it's like having a convertible without any of the potential issues that could come with a 4k convertible.

Did have a proper fun car but decided to downgrade with COVID etc (R8 V10 spyder manual) RS6 is a great mile muncher but it isn’t the most economical car and I don’t want to put silly miles on it. At the moment I also have a 330d touring

Don't bother with a convertible for motorway driving especially if a commuter car and the main journeys are long ones. You won't put the roof down.

Wait, am I missing something? You want a diesel mile muncher and you have a 330d touring?!

I think that’s a stretch to assume. I have the roof off both my Mk1 TT V6 and my 440i convertible (I commute both) every time the weather isn’t a form of precipitation.

I was just about to say the CLK320 cdi, great cars, I think you can get one as a convertible but it’s quite a rare find?.

I've commuted long distances with the roof down, I loved it. I'm not sure I would in a diesel though!

I have a convertible too but don't have to use it as a daily and my commute isn't a 270 mile round journey. Let's be honest we can all use our convertible top down whenever possible but 100+ mile commutes in all weather's isn't where the fun is at.

Got to try it, moved to the Isle of Wight just over a year ago and changed my commuter car three times already so if it doesn’t work out I’ll have to change again.

Golf Mk6 Cabriolet. You might just sneak an early reg 1.6 diesel for £4k.

I've just picked up a '16 plate with the newer EA288 2.0/150PS engine, had to travel 600 miles for it (and wait a month for the lockdown to end) but it's an effortless motorway mile muncher. Quieter inside the cabin than my Mini Countryman.

Replaced an MR2 Roadster so other than being able to put the roof down, it's a million miles away, but needs must.

This is a strange assertion. Why? I put the roof down on every trip in every convertible i owned, wet days excepted. Covered tens of thousands of miles in soft top volvos, saabs and many others. My personal favourite mile muncher was an old 1.9tdi beetle convertible. I'd have another tomorrow.
