Evening guys.

Seen a good looking motor come up on AT. It’s a JDM import. Now road tax looking at its emissions is £565 based on cars registered in the UK.

My question is, are VED prices different on Japanese imported cars or would I have to pay the same as a car registered in the UK?

Definitely worth considering for performance cars post March 2006.

If anything it atleast offsets the higher insurance you often have to pay.

No it's not.

It's based on the same rules as a UK market car registered at the same age. My JDM tax cost for 2020 was £330.

I thought it applied to all vehicles over 10 years old (should have specified that) as they don't go through IVA etc for emissions test. Could be wrong though.

It's based on what is assigned on the V5C form when UK registration is issued.

Mine is pre the big uplift in car tax for 2006 but the highest CO2 band, hence £330 last time.

It’s a Volvo V60 T6. Been told it’s £270 road tax by the dealer.
