Travelling to buy a car from Tier 3.
Discussion
A week or so ago I did a deal to buy a car 400 miles away - at the time both my area and the area the dealer is in were under Tier 2 restrictions.
I booked 2 nights accommodation, one in the town of the selling dealer and another halfway home for the following night (again both hotels in tier 2 areas). Reason being I didn't want to drive 14+ hours in a day as it would be both unpleasant and irresponsible from a fatigue point of view.
The dealer and all my accommodation remain in Tier 2 but my area today has been placed under Tier 3 restrictions.
As far as I can understand from reading the rules and advice, my trip would be questioned for two reasons:

As far as I can understand from reading the rules and advice, my trip would be questioned for two reasons:
- Where possible, you should stay local and avoid travelling outside your local area, meaning your village or town
- It is not permitteed to travel from tier 3 to a lower tier area and stay in accomodation
You'll be fine, don't worry about it!
I've done a fair bit of driving, on and off, throughout the pandemic. Alert level 4 Wales into Tier 1 Hereford, then into whatever Dudley is and back home just recently. Nobody is out there checking. I think the police have mostly given up as they know it's pointless and nonsense.

I appreciate the chances of being randomly stopped and fined are slim, but I was thinking the hotel companies might want proof I live in a Tier 2 or Tier 1 area before allowing me to check in?I've done a fair bit of driving, on and off, throughout the pandemic.
