Hi,
I'm new here so can't use Speed, plod and the law
I want to buy a new car from northern Ireland and collect it from the docks at Birkenhead once it is registered at DVLA which because of Covid will take 4-6 weeks i'm told.
I have no reason to doubt the (multi-franchise) dealer. Normally I'd use a credit card for part payment but as it's £60,000 that won't work. Is there anyway I can protect myself?
(moderators - feel free to move if you think it's appropriate to do so)
Thanks

what are you protecting against? Damage in transit can be purchased as insurance.

Why can't you use your credit card for part of the payment? You don't need to put the full 60k on the card to be protected.

Can you take finance from the dealer and then pay it off immediately upon delivery of the vehicle?

I sent a registration into DVLA on 11th November, and received it back on the 10th December. I double checked and triple checked the forms before submitting as a small error or omission causes a lengthy delay.

The 'part payment on a credit card' protection only works up to £30,000 unfortunately. I'm concerned about the dealer going broke in the 4-8 weeks when they have my money and I don't have the car.
