Put a deposit down on a 2018 plate car at a main dealer registered in march so first one not due till this coming march.
The car was MOTed July 2020 then again December 2020 with not a single mile driven between.
Seems odd it was done so early. Would this suggest it's been sat for sale since July or something worse? It has recently had a price drop. Should I avoid this car HPI is clean

Some Dealer Approved Used Schemes state that the car must have at least (e.g.) 10 months MOT before sale, so they MOT the car when they get a sale - even if its not due an MOT for a year or so.
I'd guess they had a buyer back in March that dropped out (COVID?) and now its back on the forecourt. With no miles between March and December, its not even had any test drives, so maybe its been in a compound at the Dealers.
If it had an MOT extension due to COVID, it will show the mileage as "unreadable" with COVID Extension noted as an Advisory.

This. I worked for a main dealer for many years. We sold cars with 12 months MOT regardless of age, so would regularly MOT up to 12 months before it actually needed one.I'd guess they had a buyer back in March that dropped out (COVID?) and now its back on the forecourt. As mentioned, it likely got sold in July, cancelled, and sat there ever since, which is not uncommon and not something I would be worried about. Maybe check how rusty the brakes are though
