High milage golf mk6 R

Hi everybody

I’ve got my eye on a mk6 golf R with 123,000 miles.

Service history is average with evidence of recent engine oil changes only.

I’ve listed the following to be replaced up front as a cost, anything else I should be concerned with?

1) timing belt and water pump.
2) dsg fluid change.
3) haldex fluid change.
4) replaced rear rotors.
5) fix oil leak front left of engine up high that’s coming from a small cover.
6) cam follower.

Worth going for or too risky?

Seems risky to me considering the patchy service history.

How much will all the work cost?
Add that to your budget and see what you can get with lower mileage and better SH.

On 123k with patchy SH, I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole personally.

How much cheaper is it compared to other examples?

I bought a car last year... 115k with very limited service history, although I did get the car serviced before picking it up.

Coming up to a year's ownership now and it's been spot on. It was about £1,000 cheaper than other examples.

Unless there are receipts showing it's been done the suspension will need a refresh too.

I’d agree it’s probably taken a hammering at that mileage and things will be worn out and due a refresh.

I’m going to go against the grain here. Why do we always shy away from high mileage cars in this country? For all we know that might be mostly motorway mileage which for me is better than hooning around B roads. How old is it and are you getting a good deal?

Confusing. I'm assuming $15k?

So it will shortly be ticking over the magical 200k KM mark, which will be difficult for resale.

What year is it? How many kms will you add to it? Are you intending to move it on at some point or keep it until it dies?

As you probably know, that's at least $2-3k worth of work from a proper euro specialist down here. Are they really going to throw that in, or just bodge it up?

There are a few on Carsales around $16-20k depending on location, so it's not a total 'bargain'.

Consider the overall condition, see what you can chip off and go with your gut I guess?
