Very low mileage after 3 years - odd?

This must be something of a record. It's an ordinary, mass-produced car (and currently for sale on AT, which is why I'm looking at it), so not special in any way, yet after 3 years it had only 500 miles on it, and it then goes up normally. Any ideas why?

Elderly driver popping to the shops? Trades in for a new car when they reach 3 years old and out of warranty would be my guess.

Is the car automatic and/or beige and from a Japanese brand?

Entirely possible.

I've bought cars before that have done next to nothing.

As soon as I lifted the bonnet I could see they were genuine.

You don't say what car it is, but it could have been a motability car. They are on 3 year contracts and are often very low mileage. Imagine elderly person who uses it just to pop a couple of miles to the shops once or twice a week.
Sold after 3 years to someone who started using it more normally.

Or a typo? Could've been 5,084 with low miles between 3-4 years old?

It's either a typo (the more likely reason) or they really didn't use it much.

My mum did about that mileage every year for the last five years she had the car and we hung up her licence for her. Could be an error though.

It had actually done 150,000 miles, but was clocked before the first MOT

My sister did less than 1000 miles in the first 4 years in the Mazda she bought from new. Basically drove it to do her shopping once a week and it spent the rest of the time in her garage.

My thoughts as well. A "mileage correction" before the first MOT and nobody's any the wiser. Unless of course there are verifiable service records.

Edit... seeing the age of it who actually cares what mileage it did back in 2005!
