So indecisive, what should I buy? £10k budget

Hi everyone,

I’ve posted previously and thought I’d be going for a Kia Sportage. However, dealers don’t seem to be able to guarantee that the 7 year warranty is transferable.

Do you think it’s worth taking a £10k gamble on a car unseen without the safety net of the Kia warranty?

I’m ridiculously indecisive, so I started looking at Nissan Jukes as I like the exterior look. But the ones available with sat nav are around £10k as well.

So, if warranties aren’t guaranteed what else would you recommend I look at?

I favour bulkier cars (I sadly don’t like hatchbacks) and have two teenagers and a dog. Reliability and reasonably priced servicing is a consideration. Ideally I’d like sat nav and a reversing camera. When the world returns to normal I’m not averse to long road trips.

Hit me with your out of the box ideas please!

The Nissan Puke is basically a hatchback on stilts.. what don't you like about hatchbacks?

Maybe Octavia Estate?

Also, why do you need sat nav? It's proper poorly implemented anyway. Just replace the unit with something capable of Android Auto/Carplay or use your phone.

I don’t really know, had an accident in a hatchback once and have since only
Driven big cars. I do realise I have champagne taste on a beer budget!

I don’t like estates either 😳

Firstly if the Kia you're looking at has FSH then the warranty is transferable.

If you want an SUV that's a step up from the Sportage & co then I'd say look for an Infiniti FX they're reliable loaded with spec (heated/air cooled seats/360 cameras) very good build quality low mileage & Nissan servicing costs.

You'll have to haggle but you'll be very close to your 10k budget.

You're kids may not like the looks but they'll like the inside even after being the BMW.

Yeah just to add for the OP about the Warranty.

We bought a 2014 Kia Sportage 2 from a non franchised dealer. 2 and a bit years old, full service history.

KIA never questioned ownership having changed hands, when it came to warranty work, it had full Kia S/H and its remained in their care and there has never been a question of something not being covered. Just our ownership experience but it wouldn't worry me. Just make sure its got its history in order.

You want a car for the looks, but want to be able to carry the family and a dog. You don't want to be spend a fortune.

Get a medium-sized estate car or a practical-biased "SUV" like a Duster. The dog can sit in the boot.

Nobody will care that you don't have a posher faux-off-roader-SUV or a faux-SUV like a Juke. They won't notice you anyway. For the all the UK obsession with the looks and image of a car, other people don't really notice what other people are driving, unless it is particularly striking or bright coloured. An X5, Q5 or Dicsovery is just another mid-large-sized SUV.

Assuming the previous owner has kept by the terms of the warranty (serviced on time using genuine parts etc) there should be no issues with the warranty continuing. Just bear in mind that it's 7 years/100,000 miles, so you'll see prices drop off drastically as cars head towards 90k.
