New car idea's

Hi,

I don't know if I've posted this in the right place, so sorry if I have. I've had a look online and can't find any advice on this.

I currrently have a Vauxhall Corsa SRI 1.4 litre petrol and I love the thing. It does what I need, but I'm really tempted to upgrade to something a little more better. I'm dead set on a diesel engine, but not sure what to go for. Not being picky, but I'm not interested in BMW's or Pergout. Just I have family and friends who have very bad experience with new and second hand varients and it has put me off. I'm sure there is some great models out there, but I'd rather opt for something aside from those.

I've looked at some Mazda's and VW's and even the Vauxhall Grandland which looks great. Anyway, is there anything anyone could recommend?

We need some basic criteria.

Should we be suggesting family sized cars, SUVs, new, used, a certain price range?

Why does it have to be a diesel when drivers are being encouraged to turn away from diesel?

So what you're looking for is a diesel SUV?

It would help to know what kind of budget you have. There are plenty of options out there at any price point but if you were looking at the Grandlamd they are fairly new so maybe around £15k?

I wouldn't pay much attention to experience various people have had with different brands. For example there's a big difference between modern Peugeot's and what they were making 10-20 years ago.

You'll need to give more detail that way people can give you sensible suggestions.

How many miles do you do per year?
How many miles do you do in a day?
What's your budget?
What type of car Hatchback/Saloon/Estate/SUV?

Based on your post, I think only a Kia Cee’d would be suitable.

I think you've answered your own question. You love the car you have, you'd only be changing it for the sake of it. There's nothing wrong with that if you fancy a change, but I'd spend some time working out exactly what you want to achieve from changing first of all.

Considering going from a Corsa to a Grandland is unusual unless your circumstances have changed and you now need more space? Bear in mind a larger SUV-type car will be more expensive to run, not as easy to drive around town and more difficult to park, for no obvious benefit other than being more comfortable on longer journeys (but you could also achieve this in a hatchback or saloon car).

Unless you do big mileage I would stay away from diesel.

I wouldn't pay any attention at all to your family experiences with BMW & Peugeot. That's a couple of cases in literally thousands of cars the road, they could quite easily have bought an Audi & Citroen and had problems with those too. Days of certain cars brands being horendously unreliable accross the board are gone, I would pay more attention to the particular model you are looking at (any common problems or failures) and, more importantly, what the dealer network is like in terms of reputation and how local they are to you.

The Vauxhall Grandland X is a re-badged Peugeot 3008. Just thought I'd let you know given that you don't want a Peugeot. Having said that, I have a Peugeot which is 23 years old and coming up to 170k miles, so they can't all be bad!
