S5 Sportback or V90 Estate

I am struggling to make a choice between a 2016 S5 Sportback and a 2018 V90 T8. I know they are very different cars but they both tick all the boxes of what I am after. Fairly quick, get to the dog in the back of, adaptive cruise control, newish (so hopefully less chance of major faults).

Links to both cars below. They are a similar cost and I am very close to saying yes to the S5 but there is a little bit of doubt creeping in.

The S5s with ACC are fairly uncommon so it really limits my choices. I think the V90 is the more practical/sensible option but the S5 would be more fun, even if I only keep it for 12 months but ideally this would be the car for the next 2-3 years. V90s seems to be depreciating very hard but the T8 look to hold their value better than the other models.

I would like to hear from anyone that has experience with either of these models or just generally what your thoughts are.

OP - there is a 2020 T8 with only 5k miles for 2k more on autotrader. Unsure if spec is like for like.

Surely the estate car is more appropriate for the dog? You don't want the sun cooking the dog through the hatchback, although I notice the windows are tinted.

The S5 will be more fun but maybe a little less practical for your needs, the V90's are depreciating strongly atm but I do expect this to steady off.

The S6 is another car that'll depreciate more steadily than both the S5/V90 & is still a decent steer.

Or if you want an interesting Volvo that depreciates slowly but goes well then the V60 T6 Polestar is the pick it's faster than the T8 less complex (so more sensible maintenance wise) & is much more sought after:

Thanks for this. I had looked at the E-Class before but because I want adaptive cruise it rules most of them out.

Volvo is offering a free charging point at the moment which we need for our other car as well so this would be a nice addition.

Only the diesel a couple of years ago and not for any great distance. But enough to get a feel for the size and general feel.

I wouldn’t buy one, because of the ride. But maybe good ride isn’t that important where you normally drive.

I'd go with ZX10R-NIN's recommendations for a 2018 S4 estate - the V6 in the B9 (2017 on) is cracking and much more efficient than the B8.5 V6.

You should be able to get a 2017 B9 S5 - the sportback is huge, but ultimately no competition with an S4 estate.

Just had three years of a 2017 S5 until summer of '20 - only changed it to go to a BEV.
