Buy a used car remotely OR wait till April
Discussion
Looking to change my car as soon as possible really. Hoping for a 'staycation' road trip at the end of May which is the thing i am aiming for. Current car is up for sale on autotrader and PH. Showrooms are closed but some sellers are doing remote selling or click and collect... wondering what peoples' views are on this. Likely it depends upon the seller and the car, i am sure. Maybe I should just leave it till April when I assume 'non-essential retail' will be permitted to open again per current plans?
I don't see a problem with it, I've bought two cars from distance and had them delivered in the last four years, and even though both were firmly in shed territory they were both just fine. In fact they were better than anything I found within reasonable distance to me for the money, hence buying online at all.
A good dealer will be happy to provide you detailed pictures, walk you around the car virtually, and so on. You don't have to buy "blind". If they're not happy to clearly show you the underside of the car, hear it running, or maybe even take a virtual test drive, you can move on without even having to leave the house.
There's nothing like giving a car the once over yourself of course, I'm not saying it's better. But if you find a car you like and it's up for sale by a dealer with good reviews and actual sensible human beings working there who you can talk to, sadly rare as they are, I wouldn't talk yourself out of it just because it'd have to be bought virtually.
