Hi all, have regretted selling both my E39 and E90 in recent years. This has me tempted, am I mad??!

Big caps with SOLD AS SEEN = knows the issues. Avoid. Nothing about maintenance history either.

Just another thing. I have an e61 now and good as it is, I’m of the opinion that a good e39 is better than a good e60/1. But good e39’s are few and far between now sadly.

Re the example you've linked...
- Nice colour + sport kit
- Heated seats
- Budget a/c (i.e. not climate)
- Looks like the pro nav with the wider screen
- No xenons
- PDC error

I would be somewhat wary of any modified cars, especially diesels with claimed remaps etc.

I would also be very wary when a trader states things like:

I wouldn't be put off by that advert. He's a trader with a decent rating and has quite a few nice cars up for sale. This has clearly ben taken in part exchange. As a trader he would need to offer a warranty and as this is much cheaper and older than the rest of his stock he just wants to avoid any potential come backs.

I would call him up and ask.
It could well be a sound car and that he is not hiding issues.
In declaring that he has been informed that the DPF has been removed he knows that the car is not legal to drive and risks failing its MoT if spotted.
This alone would mean he could not sell it as a runner as a reputable trader.

Surely a comptent trader would know that and thus wouldn't write: SOLD AS SEEN, SOLD AS SEEN!

If he's a trader the 'Trade sale'/'Sold as seen' element holds no legal water whatsoever. If he's a trader and he sells to the public (OP) then OP's rights under CRA2015 are fully protected.

But do you want the hassle for a car that you could buy ten times over from other traders in the next half hour?

It’s not failed a single MOT since it was new if that helps 😂

I take ‘sold as seen’ to mean it’s junk and they are trying to move it on but that’s just me

It's not quite as clear cut as that if the advert or sales contract says 'spares or repair', since the dealer is saying the car is unroadworthy and not to be driven on a public highway. In this case you are not covered by CRA2015. There is some recourse if you believe you were duped, but it is a lot messier.

The front end looks dubious to me - rather large/inconsistent panel gaps around the headlights etc and the towing eye/headlamp washer covers look a funny colour. The wheels (well at least one of them) looks like it’s been painted with a rattle can.

I’m sure you could find a more genuine example with a bit of work.
