What would you pick m2 comp vs TTRs

Hi all,

Looking to get out of the Mini challenge 210. I don’t do many miles, spec isn’t an issue for £40k what would you pick? I prefer smaller cars hence discounting the usual performance saloons. Thanks

If I had to choose between those two. M2 just as it’s slightly more practical.

From any car for £40k, probably a nice cayman. Maybe a well looked after TVR if your feeling brave and can spanner a bit.

Interesting no takers for the TT then? All of your suggestions are great the only issue being the cars are a bit old and given it’s a daily I want to run it without issues or big bills. I hear the point on the m2 being more practical but I’m planning on buying outright the m2s seem to be cheaper on lease does that many they will lose more money second hand?

Had the same budget and got a z4 m40i, great tech, looks, reasonably fast and the roof comes off!

I'd have to go for a manual M2 if choosing between the two.

The TTRS makes a wonderful noise, but the DSG gearbox spoilt the car for me, along with the arrogance of my local dealer in not sorting the issues I had with the car. Sad because I thought I'd keep that car for many years.

Or the best Cayman you could find as mentioned above.

Thanks all the Alfa is a consideration but my concern is reliability especially as my budget buys one with a few tens of thousands of miles will stuff start to go wrong I wonder?

The Alfa has proven itself to be very reliable, no less reliable then an M2/3/4 etc, the let down on the Alfa's are some of the dealers, I recommend finding a good Indy & you'll be fine.

Stuff can go wrong (if you want to buy a grunty coupe that won't go wrong buy the Lexus RC-F) on any car the Alfa is no more prone to this than it's German rivals, so get yourself a test drive

I really like both of them. If I was buying for myself I think I'd go in the direction of the M2(I do love the engine in the TTRS though).

Mechanically they have been pretty solid, but electrical issues were/are extremely prevalent in earlier cars. One of the US car mags had one for 30k - 40k miles and got so many warning lights they started ignoring them in the end. They never seemed serious, but required looking at nonetheless.

Don't know whether that's changed for the 2020 refresh (they're out of the OP's budget anyway).

Edit: To answer the OP, I'd go M2C all day. Never liked the TTs myself.

Tougher decision than I thought, purists love the m2 can’t say I’m a drift king, the ttrs has all round ability but not as much love from the petrol head community it’s difficult I like them both..

What other options do people suggest at this price point?

In a similar position. Contemplating the M2C, but manuals are like rocking horse cr^p and the DSG in a previous M5 was so boring I would never want one again.

My fear about the Alfa is similar, how engaging can it really be with only two pedals?
Mustang GT is really not in the same league as a driver's car.
Audis; not RWD
Merc C63; no manuals.

Thoughts?

A manual M4? They are quite hard to come by but the engine/performance are belting I reckon.
