‘Invest’ and ‘car’ are not words that go well together.
Even the few cars that actually appreciate have most gains eaten up by servicing, insurance and lots of other boring stuff.

What do you like? What would be fun to own?
Invest in your own fun and hope for the best would be my advice. (Not that anyone’s asking hehe)

Never make the mistake of putting "car" and "investment" in the same sentence. smile

Still a much better use of the money than a 4-pot Porsche!

In all seriousness, short of being lucky riding a wave, 99.9% of cars are not an investment.

Even the higher end stuff that is going for astronomical amounts requires so much spend in upkeep over a long period that the return is never great. A carrera GT or might appreciate by 5 figure sums in a good year, but a single repair bill can easily reach or eclipse that!

That’s not to say there aren’t good cars which you can enjoy and keep maintained, without suffering (much) depreciation.

But if you want a financial return then there are other much better alternatives outside the car world!

If you want a car as an investment - a Prius then get a job with Uber or spend the whole lot on 2 new tippers and start collecting scrap metal . . . I don’t see cars as an investment otherwise !

Investing in cars is not a good idea but if I was forced to at gun point I’d buy several SL55 AMGs. Ludicrous amount of car for the money and they can only go up in value over time. Or not.

I’d find an extra couple of grand and get a 996 Porsche GT3 with some miles and stone chips already on it.

Then I’d use it for regular European trips and track days. I’d see is as investing in the experience and the memories whilst accepting the resale value of the car would be going down. And that it would cost me money to maintain to a good standard.

So probably not within the spirit of the OP hehe

If I wanted to invest money for a positive financial return, it would probably be in land / property or the stock markets, it wouldn’t be in cars.

Ok, I'll declare my position an an owner but at that price point, BMW 1M. Don't lock it away though, use it lightly as it would be a bit of a waste otherwise.

It's more fun than stocks and shares and you may come out quids-in.

Porsche 997.2 C2S manual coupe might go up on value over time (i doubt it will be enough to cover insurance, service, storage etc though).
A cheaper option would be a 996 C4S manual coupe - i think the 996 is slowly being appreciated more and the C4S is probably the best looking one bar the GT2 (not in budget and neither is the RS, which I think has the highest upside).
A 987 Boxster Spyder if you want a convertible
A good BMW E39 M5, a manual E46 M3 coupe or a Z3 M Coupe might also be worthwhile options to consider. You might also be able to find a E46 M3 CSL (higher mileage) at your budget, whcih could be a decent option.
A good condition, unmodified, low mileage Renault Megane R26.R with all the imprtant options (i.e. Collector spec) and at a lower price the Clio 182 Trophy

I think overall the likelihood of making money on an expensive true collector car is more likely than on - finacially speaking - middle of the pack cars. For one because storage, servicing and - to a degree - also insurance costs do not go up porportionally with value. In addition, once driving cars on the road becomes more and more difficult and expensive, i suspect many people in the say 25k to 500k weekend/collector car bracket will fall away, while the people buying am F50 for 2.5m or 250 GT SWB for 10m to be invited to presitigious shows and driving events might well still be around.

In any case good luck - choosing and then buying cars is one of the great pleasures imo
