Hi, the time has come to FTK on a used car. I have been leasing for 5 years so it has been about 10 since I last purchased a car. I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can please help with!

- looking to buy a BMW around 2 years old. I think this means it will come with a balance of manufacturers warranty. So if I purchased a used BMW from, say, a Seat dealership as the have a nice trade in, any warranty type issues would just mean I can go straight to my local BMW dealer. Is that correct?

- If I buy an AUC BMW from a dealer in one network and there are warranty issues, will I have to go back to that dealer or can I go to my local BMW, even if its part of a different network (Inchape vs. Route1 or Sytner for example)?

- ditto for buying from an indie/one of these car supermarket type places. Any warranty problems still see me just go back to my local BMW dealership if within manufacturer warranty?

- does anyone know if its possible to buy an extended BMW warranty if you purchase outside of their AUC scheme?

The vehicles I am looking at I think seem fine reliability wise but I have read about OTA software updates to the i-drive system and how sometimes they go wrong. I want to avoid having to return to the selling dealership if its a couple of hours away versus my local up the road.

Thanks for the help.

Buy it wherever you want if it’s under 3 years old you will get the balance of the bmw warranty.

Take it to whichever dealer you like. It’s a bmw warranty not a sytner, inchcape warranty.

After 3 years get an extended bmw warranty from them direct here.

If you buy a car under 3 years old from a bmw dealer you will get a 1 year warranty from them even if it’s 2 years 11 months old when you get it.

Hope that helps

This OP. Some BMW dealers might even do a deal. When I bought my BMW from JC Aberdeen they threw in an extra year. So I have a car in 2nd year of warranty, 1 year manufacturer warranty, and one year AUC warranty. Worth asking if you go with a dealer.

Indeed. The BMW dealer can 'buy' the warranty much cheaper than the list price, so definitely something to push for during the deal.

That's reassuring. Thanks all!
FTK - fist the kumquat.
Never heard of it until I started reading the leasing threads a few years ago!
