Maserati no good???

Hi everyone I've recently been thinking about buying a Maserati. Something like a 2005 quattroporte. I've always liked them and always considered them to be Italian luxury sports cars however I've noticed online they get A LOT of negativity from people. Any particular reasons for this? I always thought they were the next best thing to a Aston Martin or Bentley. Am i wrong?
If the negative comments all suggest they can be a money pit then that's fair. Very few £10k cars will have the ability to empty your wallet like a 16 year old Quattroporte.
ETA - Saying that though I can certainly see the appeal. So much car for the money.

You'll get nothing but respect running a mark V QP, which is far better looking than the current version.
That said don't even consider it unless you have an independent specialist nearby.
The 4.2 V8 sounds amazing (I had it in my Maserati Coupe) however they do suffer variator issues. The 4.7L does not I believe but requires a 2008 onwards model.
Another reason for going >2008 is that it was available with a 6-speed ZF box. The automated manual transmission (called DuoSelect) is a complete dog and chews through clutches at an alarming rate.
Also the subframes tend to rot. An on-ramp inspection is essential.
That said don't even consider it unless you have an independent specialist nearby.

100% you need to get an pre purchase inspection by an independent expert though to even consider buying one.

As above you'll need to get an inspection done & make sure the Cam Variators have been done, if you're doing a lot of town driving then the duo selects can wear through their clutches but if it'll be used on a run it's not an issue.
Make sure you get the front suspension checked as some of the arms are very expensive.
