not long bought a new used car (gt 86) and am thinking about servicing it myself (well change the gearbox oil), and its got almost full history. What would you suggest would be suitable proof to a new owner when its time to move on that its been done. i would keep the receipts of the oil ect. but dont know if a new owner would take that as service history.

Have any of you been in this situation and/or what do you think would be suitable proof?

I've always just written the date and mileage of the service on the receipt. You could also sign the service book yourself.

I've had no problems selling my cars like this but they have been low value cars.

Parts recipets and sign dates stamp the book would be enough for most people especially if you look to be the handy type
But of depends on the person buying it off you what they think. But then again no Better or worse then a fake service invoice from a garage

If you're completing the work yourself then the only thing you can do is to provide the receipts of the oil, filters etc. There's really nothing you can do to prove that you're completed the servicing, aside from perhaps recording yourself completing the work but that's not exactly realistic and next to nobody is going to watch those videos to clarify.

If you want to self-service then go for it and just beware that, rightly or wrongly, the pool of potential buyers will shrink the instant a car doesn't have an official 'full service history', the same way that the pool shrinks a little when changing from a full manufacturer service history to just a full service history.

It's a GT86, a car that will often be bought by people who want to fettle with their cars a little and so I don't think you'd run in to much of a problem when it comes to moving the car on in future. Back when I was in to bikes and most people seemed to do their own servicing, I'd frequently find myself purchasing bikes that came with shoeboxes stuffed full of receipts, along with photos with that day's newspaper to show that certain OEM parts that were replaced with aftermarket were done so not due to damage but personal preference.

As above receipts as proof that you've used OEM or the equivalent parts along with a log of the mileage & you should be fine.

I came across these a few weeks back, but I’m too tight to buy any.

You could probably get something similar printed for not much money.

Or just buy a cheap notebook. hehe

I'd not worry too much about it, if you ever part-ex the car the dealer will just bin the paperwork for spurious GDPR reasons.

Just write the dates in the service book and note any special items like cambelt etc.
