Currently have a 2016 Q7 as a family car, its very functional nice tech inside lots of space and has been reliable over the 3 yrs I've owned it, only real negatives are its fairly bland to drive and to look at. I also thought I would use the 7 seats alot more than I have done but its only been twice in 3 yrs. Given that last point I've always wanted to scratch the FFRR itch and with 2017 cars now in the low £40k's I'm tempted to make a switch...am I mad to give up the reliable German for the more interesting but possibly problematic Brit? Anyone made this switch one way or the other?

If you are changing your car because it is bland to drive and look at I’m not sure a RR solves either of those issues!

I wouldnt consider the Range Rover anymore interesting or exciting either, there's tons of them.on the roads so they don't stand out at all, I dont think they are anymore special than a Q7 or an X5 personally but if you have that itch go and scratch it.

I suspect if the Q7 has been reliable you will regret changing everytime the RR breaks though.

Go for it if its an itch though. Drive a few to see if they are as special as in your imagination!

For a non-bland £40k SUV I'd be looking at a Macan or a Levante, or with budget creep a Stelvio QF.

The RR will break. So long as you are happy with that then I think the RR is a nicer car. But reliability is literally 10% of the Audi.

The BMW or Porsche will be a more fun but the best compromise might be a fast estate rather than an suv

I think the RR looks nicer than the Q7 but the reliability is a point worth considering. Out and out performance not really a concern as I have another car for fun driving so a fast estate not required. I also like the look of the new X5 so that could be an option need to test drive if garages can accommodate!I have 3 young kids so a Macan etc wouldn't be big enough for all the the stuff that comes with them.

I actually thought it was referring to Rolls Royce and then was disappointed - thought Q7 to Rolls sounds like a decent Upgrade and not one you read about every day, so was looking forward to reading the reasoning etc

Ah well

I was hoping it was another thread about switching to budget motoring, down to 3 wheels to save on tyres too. Oh well.
