Perished tyre after 5k miles?
Discussion
Hi
We have a 330D Xdrive which just went in for a service and brand fluid change, 20% off so £232 which seemed a good deal.
Anyway, as part of this they do a visual inspection and found a nail in a tyre with 7mm of tread so 6 months old. It’s run flat but seems to be holding pressure at 2.4 bar so hoping I can get a repair done
Anyway, another tyre came up as needing replacing due to perishing on the outer part and also between the tread bits. It’s a Goodyear Eagle F1 and about 6 months old, can’t have covered more than 5-6k miles.
Surely that’s not normal?
They sent me a video and you can see the tiny cracks between a couple of the tread bits.
They quoted £487 for both tyres, needless to say I said thanks and will go elsewhere

Probably your wheel alignment is slightly off, can cause tyres to appear to wear and cause the small cuts around every line of tread.
All tyres wear out in some ways after 5k miles, but unless there's actual deep cuts in it, I wouldn't worry. 99.9999% chance the tyre will be absolutely fine.

Just been to the tyre place near me
Nail was actually a screw which was < 10mm long and hadn't gone in far enough to do any damage. Perhaps RFT are thick enough they don't puncture as easily?
He said the tyre with the cracking was fine to use, its fairly common, although usually not after 6 months of use but it can happen. Reckons I would be wasting money to replace it and to run it for a while longer
