Hello everybody,

I am comparing all the hothatches of the moment to purchase and so far, the one that I love the most is the I30N (chassis, sound and racing details that make it unique, in a world of new dull cars).

But I was also thinking the M140i, I know it is totally a different approach (RWD, much more power, although is more of a GT cruiser car than a B road/rally car set up, and less exhaust sound).

The disadvantage I see in the German car it doesn't come with an LSD standard, and in many reviews they say it's so twitchy, unpredictable and doesn't give you the confidence like an M car should. (it just powerslide safe not drift)

Therefore I create this post in case someone would have tested both cars and could help me.

I enjoy mostly the cars on the B roads, but also some city and long journeys (Daily / focus car).

(Currently I have a Z4 3.0i e85, I love RWD, but also was looking for something more practical)

Thank's in advance!

Greetings

😃

M140i is perfectly adequate. Can get an m performance diff for about £1800 which makes a huge difference e

BMW is more powerful, it’s 3.0T vs 2.0T so you are always going to have more power to play with.

BMW likely to hold value better also, especially as it’s the last of the straight six in the 1 series as the current one is a four pot

Noise of the BMW engine will put a smile on your face, the I30N will be largely exhaust and looking at the Youtube reviews, it sounds a little hooliganish.

The i30N looks to be a great car in its own right but you are comparing a FWD 2.0T with a RWD 3.0T so they will be different cars to drive. I30N will be more fun on the B roads and likely better in the wet, the BMW slides about in the wet.

Hyundai will likely have more warranty left than equivalent M140i so that’s something to factor in but the B58 is fairly reliable anyway so that really wouldn’t bother me personally.

You need to drive them both really.

I've driven neither but I'd wager the i30N will be more fun down a nice B-road. I like the rally pedigree Hyundai have too.

I can only comment on the adaptive setup but I think the handling is pretty good for what it is and strikes a good balance between comfort and firm/sporty - it only really gets flustered on B roads at silly speeds and like most cars there are after market options if that’s an issue. Can’t comment on the drifting, but guess LSD would help there … maybe.

Yeah, well when I enjoy it most is on B roads that's why maybe the m140 is missing the focus part, but I know the suspension would be more confy on the beamer.

My Z4 is very fun, but also without electronic on the limit is very scrappy at the limit as it has open diff as well.
My dream is an M2 but here in Spain is so expensive

Having driven both unless you are doing track days I’d get the M140i.

Both very good options though.
