Large deposit long wait strategy needed
Discussion
Not done this before so please don’t assume I know cos I don’t.
- New VW is 6/8 months wait
- Deposit is £2.5k as it’s a pricey car for the main dealer
- it’s a small ish VW main dealer group Johnson’s
Concern is over deposit strategy, old school me pops in, pays it and waits.
Do I not go in and pay it over the phone
With a credit card
Or a debit card
As above and I can go in ?
Just looking for max protection if they go under or would another dealer take it over (?!)
To head off why I’m ordering it’s because all the first batch of Toureg R models had 1 option nothing else, I need it with more “stuff” on it plus the discount is near 20% !!!

credit card
This is the answer. With a credit card you’ll have the usual extra protection in case the dealer goes under, as the card company will refund you.But I’m not sure that the usual extra protection necessarily applies. Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act only applies to any single item with a cash price between £100 and £30k, so presumably not in this situation.
