Hi All,

My commute is due to drastically reduce from 25k+ pa to 8k pa, so it seems a good justification to go back petrol powered after 10 years of diesels.

A young and growing family, constant house renovations and tip runs, plus the odd camping trip/airport runs mean I'd still like something that is of a fair size - i.e can easily swallow 2.4m of timber without it nearly taking the windscreen out.

I've currently got a 2.2d 2010 mazda 6 sport, however it is a shed in every essence of the word. It needs about £1500 of work soon, and with it being a CAT S, I'm using this as another excuse to change cars.

Money wise, change from 7k would be ideal. I don't really fancy stretching any more than this. Age, ideally no older than 2010 but open to suggestions.
Not too fussed on MPG/Road tax, and would like some creature comforts if possible - leather, cruise

Anyway, my thoughts at the minute are;

Skoda Superb 3.6 V6 - I love the novelty of these, plus they are well specced.

Saab 9-3 2.8 V6 - I'm one of the few people that like insignia's, however I can't stretch to a VXR. So, what better than pretty much the same engine with some Swedish inspo?

Any other suggestions for me to look at would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

The Insignia VXR is hard to look past at this price point, like the 3.2/3.6 VAG engines these can suffer timing chain stretch but should be less prone to this the further you get from 2009 cars.

Also like any Hadlex car make sure it's been serviced as per schedule if not take this off the price, these are hard to find but worth seeking out.

Some solid suggestions in there ZX10R, I'll be honest i though the VXR insignia's were hovering around the 10k mark, didn't realise they had dropped. Also never knew you can get standard insignia's in a 2.8 - guess every days school day!

Probably should of mentioned, it'd prefer hatchback or estate. Only ever had 1 saloon car and I absolutely hated it

I am partial to the mondeo's too, really like them in the Titanium X Sport 2.2d. Very well specced bits of kit.

I think I might verge towards the VXR's though, it's an itch that needs scratching.

Jaguar XJ X350. Even the V6’s are [i]adequate[i/], and you’d be hard pushed to find a better ride / handling balance.

The VXR's are underrated & well worth a look they also drive well, I will say that they really benefit from a remap, it restores the torque Vauxhall took away (because they wanted it to feel more N/A) in their wisdom, The difference is noticeable & makes the car more effortless.

If an estate isn't required I'd be looking at a luxobarge.

LS460/600h

BMW 750

Mercedes S500

Any of them really, Audi A8/Jag XJ

Maybe a leftfield choice would be a Citroen C6 or VW Pheaton.
