So,

Sadly my mother passed away last year, after a lengthy probate process I will be receiving some inheritance. It is a significant chunk of money - but more pay off mortgage than buy super yacht !

So I'll pay of the mortgage, throw some money in savings, create some family memories ... and then I'd like to fulfil my childhood dream of owning an Aston Martin. It is pure luck that my childhood dream also matches my mid life crisis!

Situation is that it will be our family second car and as such a daily driver for commuting and kids taxi ride.

I'm looking at older Rapides - nudging under 40k. More practical for family and my golf clubs.
And then older DB9's - nudging under 30k. Less practical but well ... cheaper.
If prices were the same it would be the Rapide all day long.

The only other thing to mention is that this isn't necessarily a long term thing. It could be 6-12 months (are there leasing options ?) or equally, it could be a number of years. Indeed where are Rapides on the depreciation / appreciation curve?

Grateful for any options / advice - otherwise I'm going to have to buy a used Panamera!

Thanks Jeb

If your budget is 40k then I'd probably just look at the best DB9 Volante I could find for that price.

I have a V12VS and run a Panamera 4S gen 1 as a daily. My input:

I probably wouldn’t run an Aston as a daily commuter and kids taxi. Not because they can’t do it but because they’re thirsty and I wouldn’t trust my kids not to slowly wreck/dismantle it. And you’d maybe blunt the sense of occasion.

If you can get past those points, a Rapide is ideal choice for what you describe. But a DB9 is what you’d really want. The DB9 has very limited room in the back so don’t expect your kids to enjoy it unless they like cramped conditions or are very small.

The sort of age cars you’re looking at may be difficult to finance. But not impossible. I can’t believe Rapides will drop a lot lower than they are, but then I wouldn’t have thought they get to where they are.

Panameras: big things. Very well engineered. Fast and handle ok given their size. A bit cold/soulless IMO. Put that aside, buy a 4S/turbo/turbo S and you won’t be disappointed unless you also have something like an AM to compare it to.

As a completely impractical alternative option, Will Blackham has (?still) a beautiful orange S2 Exige S for just over mid 30s…

If you are looking at Rapides PM me. Is the budget fixed at below 40k? What sort of age and mileage are you getting for that type of outlay?
