I've been told about a 2005 BMW M5, with the V10 n/aspirated 5.0 engine on offer at £10,000 no offers.
Original bill of sale with factory options was £88,000.
At 66,000 miles that's surely a steal for someone? WHAT an engine for secondhand Fiesta diesel money!
Will these be expensive classics one day, like the M3 E46 is becoming?

Sounds like it’s just about ready to throw a £10k bill to fix it at the new owner!

with those cars the price you see isn't what you will spend, there are a few threads on here from buyers.

If you're willing to spend £4-6k per year fixing it and for it to spend weeks with the mechanics then yep it's a bargain! Many, many horror stories with these (especially the gearbox) but lovely special engines.

It looks like a bargain, but it might be worth reading this thread as it seems it can go horribly wrong!

Thats not a fair comparison. Unfortunately for that owner the garage he took the car to basically stripped his car for its parts and put it back together with anything they could use.

Op if you don't fancy taking the risk could you send on the details regarding the car.

Yes a V10 can be ruinous but what V10 isn't? How many times are you ever going to get to experience such an engine. As with anything always buy on condition.

Will they reach the heights of the e46 I doubt it. The E39 will do that due to them being the same era cars and people always saying the E39 is the best m5 made. The E6x V10s will always be the only M5/M6 with a V10 engine.

What I will say is that if the car is mechanically sound and generally in good condition you won't ever lose money however be prepared for potential maintenance.

These cars obviously have the known weak areas:
Actuators
Bearings
Clutch and Flywheel
Vanos solenoids
Injectors

The above are the areas I'd personally pay most attention too.
Actuators are the cheapest repair item on the above list coming in around £500 in parts from rebuild.org. Just to give you a heads up incase you haven't done your research already.

Obviously make sure its followed the a good S/H with a good number of oil changes and personally I'd not want to have gone more than 10k max between oil changes.

Like any performance car, you always have expensive running costs but that comes with the nature of owning such a car. Also don't forget about M tax for parts too.

There was an entertaining M5 thread on here not so long ago where the engine was needing replaced shortly after the owner bought it. For some strange reason he wasn't challenging the dealer, but looking for the third party warranty he purchased to pay for a new engine.

The thread was deleted so we never got to see the outcome.

I'd did expect a M5 with a suspect engine reaching the classifieds soon.

But it may be a fair comparison - the first time you take a car like this to a "specialist" you don't quite know what to expect! Unless you have previous experience of them and/or owners reviews.

OP are you buying it? As I'm serious about buying it.
I won't be keeping it but there's a good profit in it at that price.

Sorry for late reply, been out buying another motorcycle. The car went to the first person who saw it although it turned out to be Cat C.
