Looking for a semi powerful estate car and with me £16k budget, I seem to come across the 330D/335D which is 15/16 plates with 40-50k which seem the best value in terms of cost vs spec/power.

I’m trying to avoid a diesel but if I want 250bhp or more in estate form, I seem to be stuck with them for my budget.

However there are a couple of 2010/2011 Audi S4s near me with 80k ish miles for around £15k which seems a good price?

Am I mad thinking of one which is 10 years old?

Insurance/Tax doesn’t bother me but I would rather not have a 2k maintenance bill if I can help it.

I guess fuel costs are likely to be more but I only do 5-6k a year

Failing that, is there any other powerful Petrol estates within my budget?

You wouldn't be mad they're a decent car.

They can suffer chain stretching but it's not as common as it was on the previous generation, you'll hear it anyway but it's something to be aware of.

There are other alternatives to the S4.

E63 AMG very low bork potential & an absolute peach of an engine & this would be my pick over an S4:

Also keep an eye out for W212 E350/500 estates as they're another good pick:

Leftfield:

For me the Insignia VXR is a very underrated car & for that reason you can get a very nice one for sensible money, the thing you have to check on these is that the Haldex unit has had it's services on time.

Being a Vauxhall running costs are sensible, I've now supplied a fair few now & most owners are very happy & I'd buy one over an S4 Avant:

Appreciate the reply.

I hadn’t thought of the Cupra actually, I like the idea of getting something slightly newer and some come with CarPlay so could be an option.

Forgot to mention I want an auto. The Vauxhall also appeals fo
Me so will check if they come in auto too.

They do but they're very rare.

Skoda Octavia VRS could be an option, even in hatchback form the boot is massive so could get away with it

My only worry would be it being 220hp which seems a decent amount down on the likes of the Cupra ST

If you can live with 260bhp 4x4 then there's the rare Grand Insignia in Elite Nav spec they're around 16k, I snapped up an estate version for a client last week & it looks like the hatchback one has gone too.

BUT they're a bloody rare find.

If you can live with 220bhp from the Octavia, then I'd be (I'm bias as I have one) the Mondeo preferably in Vignale spec.

I test drove everything & out of the FWD cars it was the best steer the fit & finish is spot on, if you're happy with a remap you'll be a smidge under 300bhp.

The boot is huge & whilst the quality isn't quite up to BMW levels it's not far off & you'll have all the connectivity you'll need.

There's an Estate 260 Insignia for sale a bit over budget so some hard haggling & a budget stretch will be required:

Thanks. I’m edging towards a Leon Cupra ST.

Few examples around with sub 40k miles for my £16k budget. Only downside is the spec seems light on some of them. Coming from a three year old Mini, I have been spoiled with heated seats and wireless CarPlay!

Cupra I was looking at has FSH but none dealer which seems odd, not often you find a car where at least the first couple of services were not dealer.

Just keep looking also look across all three outputs 280/290/300 for the right spec.

I had a Cupra 4Drive from new, very comfortable, quick, no squeaks / rattles, 100% reliable - and without doubt the most boring car I have ever owned, I was so bored with it I handed it back early - the M135i that I had before it was objectively the less accomplished car but it was fun, the Cupra did not ever come close to being fun

Ended up getting a 430D Gran coupe AUC.

Not quite an estate but boot is large enough and will allow us to have the dog in the boot.

Had a decent spec so comfort pack, msport adaptive suspension, pro nav, auto folding mirrors with anti dazzle.

Dealer is going to:

Replace two front tyres
Refurb all four alloys
Replace rear pads
MOT it
Give it a major service and brake fluid as they are due in four months time

Seems a decent deal

Nice choice OP, I've been looking at these myself in the last few weeks.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Too late bow as you have got a car but 80k on an S4 is nothing. I have a 2009 S4 that’s done 159k
