Looking at a small car. Second hand 1 2020 69/20 comes in around 12.5k - 13k.

Friday a new one (with NHS discount) was 13.2k which seemed like a no brainer compared to used.
Yesterday the manufacturer lowered the support by £800 so new is now 14.1k.

At what point does the Man Math calculation fail?

Think I'd still go new I that scenario. Presumably you will get more or less an extra year warranty, which must be worth nearly half the difference?

This is where i am at at the moment. The newer model adds LED lights, some engine improvements and as you say will be warrantied a further year-18 months.

I should add my budget started at 10.5k, but I wanted max 18 months old and current reality is that gets me a 3 year old car. It's actually for my daughter who is on L plates. I'm compensating by the fact I've sold my car and can hold off ordering a new one for sometime and use this for running about in.

I'm actually having similar thoughts currently. My daughter turns 17 in September and if used prices stay silly high I may chop in my A4 estate for something small and cheap (she won't be getting new) that she can learn to drive in and I can use in the meantime and then she can have when she passes

Presumably the downside is that when you go to order the new car, they'll give you a delivery date of this time next year? And that's why the used cars are the same price? If it'll be delivered in time then I'd tend to agree, the reduced uncertainty in buying a brand new car would make it worthwhile to me.

Jump on Carwow and I'll bet you'll get that £800 knocked off again. Although not sure how that works with NHS discount...

The NHS discount was much higher than available else where but will give it a go and see.

It's 3 months but I do have a hold on a car in stock.

That's the deal, I have first dibs on the car but I WFH so might only need it occasionally. I'm actually eyeing up the new M3 comp but reluctant to pay big PCP costs for something sat in the garage.
