Dear PHers

Due to unexpected situations i have started online food delivery job with uber eats. Should I sell my current N53 330i and buy something else?
Last year I did 10000 miles. But with food delivery job this can increase a lot. My use includes occasional drive to airport, so need space for suitcases as well.

I might get a better job later, so I'm not sure if I should continue to do online delivery in a 6 cylinder petrol.

If I buy what should it be? Want to go the diesel route, of possible a ulez compliant diesel.

Suggestions are welcome friends. Thank you.

Keep the 330i and get an ebike

I don’t know how you’d make enough to cover the goods in transit insurance (especially on a 330i) and earn a living.

Can't offer any advice on what car to buy, but I do recommend you are properly insured for the required use.

What mpg will you get?

What would be the cost to change vehicles?

Do the maths and answer this for yourself

It's. Zego insurance with car's main insurance.

23 mpg in city. 38-40 mpg on motorway long runs.

I don't think there will be additional cost to buy another car. Buy something at less cost with the selling money.

That's a tad below minimum wage.

1.20 per hour for delivery insurance. After fuel expense I made 8 per hour last week.

Work out how many miles it’ll take to make the money back changing cars then factor in your plans and timescales.

That’s still below minimum wage - take off the c50p per hour of wear and tear in the car and it’s not looking great.

An ebike is 3 months of insurance premiums and means you earn minimum wage at least.

Yes, I'd be looking to swap your car for something more suited to your lifestyle, so something like a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 CDTi, or Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi. If you must have a BMW then a 316d would also be suitable.

Try to keep it as long as you can. You’ll be forever wishing you didn’t sell it when things improve. Can you sorn it until things improve and perhaps put some of that towards the over heads in you job?

I wish you all the best

As mentioned, after hassles of parking, turning around, traffic queues etc. bicycle will probably be overall quicker than a car, whether e-bike or "manual". Get a chain you can wear around your waist.

Otherwise a K11 Micra would fit the bill!

If it's really local then look at a cheap EV? 150 miles will do an evening's deliveries and you'll save 15p/mile in fuel over what you have now.

Or do what everyone else does and buy an older petrol Corsa, Polo etc. No point using a diesel for deliveries,
