Cupra 290 gone, unsure what to buy next.

What is the brief?
22K could buy you quite a lot.
Based on looking at the 140i. Be aware that AT hides some of them under "shadow edition"

There is of course the 135i - though slightly older and that may be a factor.

What age limiting factors are there?
Not much to go on, so i've based on some assumptions. As you are looking at a hatchback and fairly hot? (based on wanting a 140i) - you could look at the likes of - (based on you having a Cupra - these won't be too "alien" in feel) and of a more "premium" feel like a BMW -
Audi RS3

Audi s3 (saloon) -

More of the same with VAG - wouldn't call it particular premium but its a nice cabin.
Golf R -

German and not VAG -
Mercedes A45 -

Less premium but a very good car -
Civic Type R

Something slightly leftfield. Very good steer. Nice looking and somewhat understated -
Jaguar XE

More of the same -
Cupra 300
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202105293...
Not a hatch and giving up 2 seats but a mighty fine useable daily 2 seater -
Porsche Cayman

Like Steve above I'd say take a good look at the XE S they're a very good underrated steer:
