Hi

I viewed an Audi a couple of weeks ago, private seller, original owner, all nice and genuine etc.

It took a while to sell my car, but all sorted over the weekend and agreed to collect on Thursday. However, the car has had a personal number plate on it since new, which was placed on retention online today. We have the new registration number. However, any ideas how things work in=f the V5 isn’t received by Thursday? The seller has his retention certificate or similar which allows plates to be printed, but to confirm the sale online he needs the new V5 ref number I assume, and I guess I need the same to tax?

I can just picture getting pulled by the pol9ce for no tax against the number (I should add that the seller is happy not to cancel the tax, until we have the V5, but that’ll be against the old number, or will it transfer to the new number as part of retention?

Probably a simple answer, but must admit to not understanding how it would work!

Cheers
