Hi all, I'm looking at replacing my berlingo for work. I need some seats in addition to boot space for the child and Rhodesian Ridgeback.
I don't really want to sign up for a finance agreement as I already have a Skoda vrs on a pcp that the mrs uses to get to uni/hospital. I've checked out second hand vans and the prices seem ridiculous at the minute.

Ive been looking at Mitsubishi shoguns. seats, good load space and apparently reliable. Ive had a 2016 discovery landmark previously to the Skoda, however the wife is now a student nurse and funds won't allow. I also do a bit of shooting so might come in handy.

for my budget I've seen a 2010 shogun, high spec but with 192 k on the clock. its just under 6 grand.

does anyone have any experience with them? is it something I should be avoiding at that mileage?

Thanks in advance

I don't know whether you should be avoiding a high-mile Shogun, but assuming it's this one I would definitely suggest you google the dealership that's selling it before proceeding wink

If you're looking for van alternatives, by and large an MPV will be cheaper/newer and have more space than an SUV, but if you want an off roader then sure.

For 6 grand and wanting a large suv I would put money towards a Range Rover!

I haven't looked at a Shogun for a few years now, but they used to have a habit of rusting badly at the back end. There used to be some panels inside the car at the back which you could remove quite easily to have a look at the inside of the wheel arches. They rot there from the inside out. I think they used some left-over steel from 1970's Alfasuds.

Mechanically they're very strong.

Thanks for the heads up, ill give that one a miss. I can do without the hassle with dreamer salesmen.. I've seen another in London, similar mileage. so the mileage wouldn't/shouldn't be an issue at this amount?

Cheers, its not that I specifically need one. I've looked at Discovery 4 again but the old reliability comes in. I thought that with blacked out windows I could make it look ok with some sign writing without making me look like I collect scrap metal for a living in it. looking to the future if I bought a caravan it would be a great tow car ( holidays only, not full time living) lol

Having 4 in the household and owned 8 with none costing over £5k I would disagree tongue out

Most recent is a 07 3.6 tdv8 on 150k with everything like cooled seats etc for £2950. Needed front suspension arms to solve a knock.

What about a less high mileage but older landcruiser. They appear to be utterly indestructible.

I see you are in Lancashire. DJ Autos always get some nice import Shoguns in for sale. Might be worth a quick call. I'm in Wigan, but never personally seen his stock.

Can be tricky to find the right car to transport Dragons.

Ive got a 2007 Grand Cherokee and I love it, cost 2800 IIRC a couple of years ago. It can hold a full size whiskey barrel with the rear seats still up.

smile I have her in the front of the berlingo but she's massive now, she's also petrified in the front. I was travelling down an a road recently and a pigeon was flying right in front on me. it was pandamonium. trying to bite it through the glass...plus its a struggle with my lad, dog and me in the front now I don't have use of my own car lol
