Best 'Everything' car.. Do I change from Skoda VRS estate?

As title suggests - I have a Skoda VRS 2016 Diesel Estate at the moment.

When I bought this last year I was after an 'Everything' car that would be cheap to run, tows well, fairly nice to drive and comfortable and cheap to maintain.
I absolutely love the car - interior is very nice, comfy seats etc etc. It's now done around 130K. So i suppose my question is, when I change my car next year sometime..

Is there anything else that does 'everything' like my VRS estate does? Whilst looking last time there was nothing else I could really compare.

Only contenders I can think of is a Skoda Superb estate (more towing weight and larger car)

Needs:

-Sub £12k
-Tow minimum of 1800kg (ideally over 2T)
-Good MPG
-Nice to drive and comfortable
-Big Boot

Ideally not a BMW as they cost a fortune when things go wrong (and they do!)

Interesting post as I am currently looking for a new car and the Octy vRS estate and Superb hatch or estate are high on the list as you say they literally are great do everything cars.

This is the problem when you have a good car......replacing it!

That's it! The only thing stopping me going for the 'new' Octavia is the fact I really don't like the styling on the facelift mk3 with the split headlight and the mk4 is too modern for my liking. Shame really!

Sounds like a switch across to the Superb might be more your thing then. Dont discount the hatch as the boot on them is huuuuuuge

For £12k you'll struggle to get a Superb any newer than your VRS unless the mileage is 90k +.

Prices have definitely firmed up in the last year.

Just keep the VRS unless you just want a change.

For me the Mondeo is the better car, it's the better steer & imo a better interior but test drive some options to see what floats your boat.

Was looking at Golf GTDs and Leon FR TDI estates too, but they can only tow 1600 kg braked.

Keep the VRS. Way better steer than the Mondeos etc which seem somewhat overpriced

Thanks ZX - the Focus ST estate was actually on my shortlist when I bought the VRS, went to see a very nice one in Race Red, unfortunately because of the centre exit exhaust the model is not rated to take a tow bar (even if I was to take the exhaust off and put a side exit on) shame really as they are a very nice car.
Mondeo looks a very good medium ground between the two - Titanium or similar models look very well specced too, thanks!

Thanks - I'm surprised how much the C class appeals, I'll definitely look into them, they aren't an option I'd thought of before and after using my brothers' Touareg for a while I am tempted to go for an auto next time if I'm honest - good shout!

I'm about to come out of a company car and take the cash and have been looking for a 'do everything' car to replace it.

I've been looking (online) for a couple of months and, for me, I think the VRS is very hard to beat as an all-round package. So much so, that I've put a deposit down on a 2016 petrol estate.

I'll be coming out of a BMW 530e, which, whilst a nice motor, just doesn't do as much for me as the Golf GTD estate it replaced. I figure the VRS in petrol guise and being bigger than the Golf should be a good in-between car for those two, despite the perceived quality perhaps not being as high.

That and the fact I'm going to be quids-in once my allowance starts (gaining the allowance plus not paying company car tax) means I'm very much looking forward to getting it.

They're pretty scarce in the spec I wanted. So much so that when one came up on Wednesday I've pretty much bought it sight unseen, and I'll have a 4 month overlap before my company car goes back and the allowance kicks in.

So, longer answer short, I think you already have the right car. Keep it.

I’d a look at a Superb Estate SE Lwb and mapping it. That would be an interesting all-rounder.

Looking at what you have and your budget, I don’t see that much relative change in the next year. I’d say stick with your Vrs - it looks you’ll pay at least a few grand to change - then prob another 500 to fix stuff. That’s like free servicing for your existing car for the next 5 years.

A replacement £12k car doesn’t sound worth it for not much of a change. I’d stick.

I’d probably keep your existing car and run it into the ground. If it’s well maintained 130 k miles is nothing these days.

I have a 63 plate VRS petrol hatch and I think it's a difficult "everything" car to replace, especially with a £12k budget. I'm not sure you'll get something appreciably better than what you have, especially with mileage and age, not helped by the current market where prices have increased significantly in the past 6 months or so.

The Mondeo is a much better car than an Octavia.

In the same boat.. currently have a 2015 vRS Diesel, full Skoda history and very high specification with 85k.

Fancied a change but with the way car prices have gone lately, makes little sense unless you actually need a different car. I ended up buying a new motorbike instead.

Was looking for a 'do everything car' recently too. Had my sight on a Superb estate with less than 70k but prices are 15K for a diesel 2016+ (not even from an approved used dealer), February this year they were going for around 13k approved used!

Ended up finding a 2016 petrol vRS estate for around 13k!

I'd keep hold of it for now as others say and see what happens later in the year!
