Keep OEM parts when optioning?
Discussion
I wonder if some of those more accustomed to ordering new cars that I am can help me with something. I have ordered a new Mercedes C63 from a dealer, and asked for it to be optioned with a couple of carbon fibre parts and Brabus bits, All available through the supplying main dealer. Carbon fibre mirrors, diffuser, and so on.
The salesperson told me the car will arrive in the dealership (in September) as standard, they have ordered in the carbon parts and will fit them, which is fine with me.
Should I ask for the original parts that are being swapped out, to be boxed up and given to me also?
I could either sell these, or use them in case of any dings and so on.
As far as I can see, the price I am paying (for the parts catalogue) is the same as anyone would pay for just ordering the carbon fibre parts to be delivered to them. No part exchange or anything like that. In my case, all the parts supplied with the original car will be brand-new, as the car is brand-new.
I know the dealer, I’ve dealt with them before, and they are giving me a good price. On the other hand, they have not raised this issue, and we are talking about several thousand pounds worth of parts.
What would anyone here do?
Many thanks in advance

I have done this a couple of times when buying motorcycles, there have been no quibbles with the dealer concerned, I would certainly request them and get confirmation in writing or email from the dealer.I could either sell these, or use them in case of any dings and so on.

On my BMW F36 I did similar however it was cheaper to source OEM parts from other dealers and not the supplying car dealer unfortunately. So I did a mixture of things..
1. I swapped OEM 19” wheels from factory for OEM 20” nicer models which I did with the car dealer as a part-ex - say £3000 for new wheels less £1000 for the factory ones so I paid £2000.
2. For other body kit stuff, the dealer boxed up my original bits and I still have today. Eg chrome BMW grill and original rear diffuser. I just had to make sure I had space to take it all home lol.
3. I also modded the exhaust with a M Performance Power / Sound kit from another BMW dealer. In that case I wouldn’t have been able to take the factory original kit with me so I asked that (Cooper reading) hang on and I put the original on eBay for £200 and someone bought it and collected from the dealer. No issues at all.
So a mixture of all of that. My trouble is that no one would want the original rear diffuser and no one wants the BMW chrome grill, so they’re sat in my garage gathering dust.
When I come to offload the car, I may return as much to stock config as possible but tbh it’s a hassle. My biggest issue will be the better wheels so I guess I’ll have to exchange back to a lesser set and get money for them.
I guess it depends on whether you’ll be able to sell the original parts or fit them again when you come to sell the car.
