hello,

Currently driving a FN2 Type R which I've had a lot of fun with as a 2nd car however I now want to experience more...

I want something fun and powerful, but also looks the part and doesn't screw me over with £600 road tax (anything over £400 is no go for me), isn't under 25MPG and isn't going to cost an arm and leg to repair...

So what can I get for £10k? I've been having a hard time finding something decent, it seems like everything I'm after is around the £15k mark and options around £10k are extremely limited (which sucks because I'd rather not spend that extra money when I'm also saving for a house...)

Very much looking forward to seeing peoples suggestions smile

2 or 4 seats?

Are you fussed if it's turbo or prefer n/a?

Is age (of the car) a limiting factor?

How handy are you with the spanners?

Any brands that are desirable or avoidable?

Not bothered how many seats, would prefer a smaller car than big, I am 6"4 so that has to be took into account

I prefer NA but understand that might be a struggle with the tax and MPG requirements so Turbo will be fine

Not too bothered about age but

Never done any work on a car but willing to learn if needed

In terms of brands I don't want a "boy racer" car, and I'm not a fan of Audi (Mother had a 3.2 08 TT with electrical issues constantly so I don't trust the brand), apart from that I'm not too bothered, as long as repairs aren't too expensive then anything is fine really

A few suggestions although due to prices right now im not sure how viable all of these will be:

2008-2011 BMW 130i
2010 S4 v6
2012 slk350
2012 Astra GTC VXR
2006 Boxter S
2012 328i
2013 focus ST
2012 Megane RS

Maybe an infinity Q50 35h if you can actually find one (350hp v6 with hybrid)

With you're budget getting a Cup Chassis Megane RS is going to be hard but you can get some very good alternatives that are a smidge behind the Megane.

At 10K the best of those IMO is the Astra GTC VXR you'll get a newish one, they handle well, have plenty of go, nice inside & you can get one with sensible miles on the clock too:

Slightly Leftfield:

Giulietta Cloverleaf good car not as sweet a steer as the Astra above but good none the less:

2.0T Focus ST-3 a good car but not as good as the Astra:

2.5T ST-3

Mazda3 MPS not as sweet as the Focus but a good car with a good following

I bought a 2013 M135i for just over £10k. Sensible miles. 3dr. Manual.

It's great

350z is fun, powerful enough and 30mpg avg.

<£400 VED if pre-06, but even at £600 it's hardly a massive expense overall.

Reasonably small, but more than comfortable for someone 6'4+

Bulletproof, with decent aftermarket, so repairs aren't an issue.
