Hi,
Just joined to get some feedback for what im about to post.

Went to view used car from dealer about 18 miles away which was advertised on their web site, auto trader, gumtree, ebay.

Car was a 2018 suzuki celerio 1.0 dueljet sz2, Price £4490, car is cat N.
Called dealer to say i was coming to view car so about 2 hrs turned up to view. Car was blocked in by many other cars so no chance of test drive.
Was told had full SH. The cat n damage looked to be good repair, pain job on bumper not the best but everything else looked good.
Large crack in windscreen which dealer said would replace but looked like it was just a chip which had spread across the whole window in the hot weather.
Seen that a few times. Engine running and all seemed OK.
Told dealer i would go home and think about it.

Looked at a few other cars from dealers within 50 miles over the next few days which were also cat n and s and to be honest they were all badly repaired and some not fit for road.
Thought back to the dueljet i looked at a few days ago and although not test drove the car i checked all i could about the dealer online so was happy to to go with the car and put my trust into this dealer.
I called and said i would take the car if they put a new MOT on as it was only 4 months away from needing its first MOT, also asked for delivery to where i work which is 20 or so miles away and of corse for the windowscreen to be changed.

Put down deposit of £250, then later the rest after it passed the MOT, then another £150 for the tax which the dealer paid to tax the car for me.
Delivery was arranged for Friday 30/07 and he arrived at 7pm in pouring rain. The car was not on flatbed but he drove it there himself.
Quick look around car, no warning lights, no dents so signed for the car.

That night at work (working nights) i was having a good check round the car and stero was asking for security code and Servise history not in the car.
Bit anoyed i searched internet and found out to try and put in the last 4 digits of the vin number into the radio. Yeah that worked so was happy again, would get back to the dealer Monday about sending service history.

I drove it around the car park so i could find out how the start stop system works. All dueljet models have stop start. Never had stop start before so had no ideal about them. When i could not get it to work i again did web site search and down loaded the manual as no manual came with the car.
I spend the next few hours trying to work out the s/s system. As i was at work i gave up and though i would have another go in the morning.

In the morning i took car to fill up for petrol. Car drove OK but over some bumps they was a very loud knocking noise from the front drivers side. On the main road it was ok but on the back roads which were a little bumpy it was knocking badly. Oh dear and it just passed an MOT the day before.
I started to think that they had sold me a standard sz2 which has no s/s and is in fact a different engine. It was searching on the internet that confirmed it was not a dueljet model as it had the K10b engine and not the dueljet K10c engine.
The dueljet and standard sz2 look the same and have no badge to say it is a dueljet.
I confirmed i did not have a dueljet engine by checking the engine number which was almost impossible to see as is hidden.

So to sum up i have paid for a car advertised on at least 4 websites as a 1.0 dueljet sz2 and they have delivered a standard sz2.
It is not just a case of auto trading listing a feature that the model of car did not have but a case they have sold a different car to the one advertised with a different engine.

I sent email to dealer to inform him of the issues and to reject the car.
Phoned him on both numbers but did not answer.
Credit due he did call my phone when he received the email.

He told me he would sort out the problem with the knocking as it could not be much as its nearly a new car but could not see the problem that he had sold me a different car with different engine to the one he advertised, he said its still an sz2.
The dueljet model is £500 more and 20% better on fuel and i would never have paid what i did for a cat n standard sz2 model.

Asked the dealer to research the 2 models with the different engines and he would i hope see the issue. I told him i left the car at work as i though it not safe to drive but i am back in work tonight so i would see if i could see a broken shock or what ever and call him on Monday.

To be fair the dealer has at least responded to my email.
I am not trying to find fault with the car to get some money knocked off but bloody hell this cannot be right.

I know i have rights when buying from a dealer which is why i chose to buy from one.
Not too sure about where to go with this so welcome some feedback from others on here.
realise that some here are dealers so do not expect all replies to see it from the side of a customer.

thanks for reading.

New poster, looking for advice having been missold a car, and that's what you say? What a miserable arse.

OP do you have a copy of the original ad saved? You're within your rights to return it for a refund if its not as described

"Dealers must also comply with the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations (2008), which prohibit them from engaging in unfair business practices:

Giving false information – either verbally, visually or in writing, for example misrepresenting the vehicle's specification or history at any time before, during or after the transaction."

https://www.theaa.com/car-buying/legal-rights

If you are happy with the current car I'd get him to fix the issues, and negotiate some money back for the less desirable engine. Otherwise return it if you can't agree on a partial refund

Many thanks WhyNotEh.

Yes i have adds printed from auto trader and ebay but gumtree and his web site now not showing.

Depending on the knocking problem i think i would chose to keep the car with some deducted for selling the wrong car.

Is an odd thing to happen.

Many thanks to you also pothole, My job involves just to be on site during closed hours for out of hrs contact, employee access and security which although is good it is many hours at work.
I can cook, watch tv, use internet, fly drones, work on my cars, caravan, do my washing and the last few months i have set up a dart board so spend most of my time at work playing darts. Guess as im getting paid to play darts that makes me a professional darts player.

Is there a dislike of new posters here?
Used to follow the site years ago so chose to post here first.
Was expecting some hostile posts and so sorry to bore you Bemmer

Two bits of advice:

firstly spend a bit more time researching what you are buying

secondly what is all this CAT stuff ? dont bother with st like that - buy a normal car from a normal dealer that has not got any hidden past

The engine number is quite easy to see on the V5, isn't it?

I'll go with the first bit of advice. A bit more research would mean you wouldn't have this problem, but you are where you are. If the car was genuinely misdescribed (and do your homework to make sure you on solid ground) then you will have recourse with the seller. Getting satisfaction however may be a bit more difficult. Did you pay with a credit card or anything like that?

Second bit of advice is a bit rude Zipblobb; some people can't afford cars from the posher end of the market and buying CAT cars is a good way to save some money. Don't decry this guy for doing so.

Talk to the dealer again & explain that you wouldn't have paid that money for the model you have & then hope you can get to a number where you're both happy with the deal.

As others have said, next time be more thorough in you're research.

fair point but some folk hunt down the cheapest dregs of that model for sale then want perfection , id suggest dealers that sell written off cars are not the best places to spend money

Not sure what your issue is - this is one of the biggest UK based car forums - so naturally some people will join and ask for advice.

You could always, you know, leave the thread instead of posting a pointless comment, which I’d suggest is more of a problem on this site than new posters.

I am surprised it has taken this long. It really does irk though, that something so basic can be allowed to fly under the radar.

OP, if the engine difference was important to you then it should have been checked before purchase.

It's always difficult to sort out afterwards.

Yes in theory you have "rights" but don't rely on them.

Test drive the car, check the important bits.

Just a left field thought: perhaps the engine was changed as part of the CAT damage, and a cheaper one put in?
