not many about but something to look at

also the 350z are cheapish, will have a look at the turbo / supercharge route etc

I'd spend a bit more and get a car that's already turbocharged & maybe extend the budget & haggle hard:

Hatchback WRX ticks a lot of your boxes & you can get one for sensible money:

200SX

Skyline 350GT & leave it N/A

This Mitsubishi FTO surely has the looks down, and at £2400 leaves some headroom to try and play with forced induction eg https://www.ftosupercharged.com/

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154553895535

I saw this Mitsubishi Starion Widebody Turbo up for £5k, then realised the ad was from 2014, would be £10k today, but maybe an option

https://classiccarshq.co.uk/ads/for-sale-1988-mits...

ETA: MR2 Turbo with no MoT, £3300

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384311190715

There are a few (LHD) Mitsubishi Eclipses in budget on the Continent in budget, Turbo. The frontend of the car on the Ridge Racer box looks like an Eclipse, rear end looks like an FTO as above.

Tbh if you can stretch to a 350Z and like the looks, they're a good option. Seems prices have escalated just recently so you might need £6-7k budget or get lucky. Plenty of power as stock and newer than most other options. There's a video series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwV_Ijt4oZk&li... that touches on quite a few of the common issues, although they're generally robust and much less prone to huge bills than other cheap performance cars.
