Megane RS 300 (non Trophy)
Discussion
My car history has been littered with hot hatches that ended when some little bar steward decided to break into my house for the keys of my M135i back in 2017. They never found the keys but that was that and I sold the M lite and leased a V90 when the cheap lease deals were about.
When that lease was up I bought a Jaguar XE V6S that unfortunately had quite a bit wrong with it and the dealer was brilliant and bought the car back of me for what I paid for it. This left me without a car and panic ensued and I (mistakenly) bought an A4 252bhp quattro, this is literally this most dull car I have ever owned (I loved the Volvo). I bought the A4 cash and with the second hand market being so buoyant I have hardly lost anything on the A4 and now is the time for it to go.
I have been wracking my brains with what to buy, I want to love the car I own again and I want to enjoy driving what I own. I don’t want a Golf or another BMW. I am very close to 40 and have two kids under seven, so I keep thinking I need something ‘sensible’ then I saw a Megane RS on the road this week and it has real presence and I looked up the reviews. I remember them not being well received when first released but the latest update to the ‘300’ seems to of reviewed well.
I went on carwow and the numbers coming back are good and I really think I have found my next car.
I have decided I want a hot hatch again. I have tried sensible and all it did was make me resent cars.
So I suppose the question is, am I missing something? Is there a better car that fits the bill?

Very similar situation to you.
I'm currently leasing a Mégane 280 cup on a cheap lease deal. I've two little ones under 5 and before the Mégane went all sensible with a V90 estate and A6 Avant lease deals.
The Mégane is a good all-round car but not the very best. It's an ok size but not huge but perfectly ok for younger kids in the back. If I was buying I'd not be over the moon with the interior fit and finish and the infotainment system on my early car is pretty rubbish. I think the newer ones are better
But as a car to drive it's amazing. The cup chassis is VERY firm but gets better at speed. The handling is better than any hatch I've driven and it really is an event to drive briskly.
It also looks great with a brilliant stance. I'd definitely try one if you can to see if you can live with the ride if I was being honest but I would definitely recommend one.

I've had a Trophy for 8 months and it's fantastic. Other than the suspension, I don't think there are any mechanical differences to the current 300 model.
It will feel very different to the cars you've been running, I can usually jump in any car and get used to it pretty quickly but it took me a while to adapt to the Megane. Now that I have, it makes every other car feel clumsy and vague.
Interior is not a match for the german stuff in terms of feelgood factor, but it's acceptable and the car drives so well you won't care.
You won't regret it!
