Bidding on Collecting Cars

I like the platform and have bought a few cars through it, there are clearly traders on there looking for value but CC will also bid cars up to reserve (as has been discussed on previous threads, this is common practice in the auction world).
Do your due diligence as the sale will be private between you and the vendor. I bought my card blind and was very happy, the photos were comprehensive and honest enough for me to take a view.
I had a couple of instances of being offered a car the next day (as underbidder) when the winning bidder apparently did not stand on their bid. Whilst I generally got the deals done, I would rather they just said we bid it up to reserve and car is available for £xxx.
Nothing to be scared of OP, much the same as any auction, just bid what you are happy to pay and don’t get sucked in to the thrill of the auction after a few drinks!

That is quite an accusation. I would be very careful accusing a company of shill bidding, which is against the law and has seen numerous individuals in the past, prosecuted and fined. Just saying.

Taking bids off the wall to reserve is perfectly legal.

It certainly is but they can't go above the reserve doing it.

Shill bidding is different, it's where you bid on your own item to push up the price or get a friend / family member who has no intention of buying the item to bid on it for you to drive up the price.

It's often done in property auctions to make help a limping auction move above the reserve and get the sale completed.

I like the platform. The seem to have reduced the description recently to shorter bullet point styles.

Still not sure it has the audience. A friend had an absolutely immaculate 18k mile e34 which didn’t meet the reserve. He put it on autotrader for 2k more than the reserve the next week and the phone was rung off, he had a deposit the next day. Maybe not the target car.

The car and classic auction platform seems to be getting good results also.

Apologies, I assumed that any bid made by someone connected to the auction house itself, even up to reserve price, would be considered shill bidding, but obviously not. Thanks for clarifying.

Thought I'd tag my question onto this thread rather than start another:

I have a listing live on CC and in the 'Comments Box' a person has asked if they can view the car. I am happy with this but don't want to put my address in the public domain and there doesn't seem to be a facility for sellers and buyers to privately message each other (unlike eBay). To those of you who have used CC how best to answer this? I assume it's a fairly common occurrence. Thanks...

collecting cars(Collection commission) should put them in touch, as thats the service thats being paid for.

However they're more bothered about instagram posts than helping buyers or sellers once a car is listed.

Surely you need to contact CC so they can put you in contact with the potential bidder.

Yes, that's what I thought but no reply from them yet. I'll them another try.

ETA: All sorted now, CC got back to me with contact details for the bidder.
