Buying car online, for home delivery
Discussion
Looking for a replacement family car, so far found one that's on the opposite end of the country but they offer home delivery.
Never bought a car online before, so would appreciate some feedback before I engage with the dealership.
What happens to stuff that needs to be signed? Is this done when the car is delivered?
What should I be looking out for? Can anyone please shed some light of the process?
TIA!

Seriously though, you’d be best asking your questions directly to the supplying dealer as they’ll all have their own MO.

If you are spending big bucks and you are nervous, just go and see the thing. Other end of the country is no big deal - leave at 4am and be there for 9am or thereabouts.
What's the problem?
That is if I’m driving. I would be taking the train as I need to drive the new car home. It’s around 7 hours or so by train, and then 5 hours back again. What's the problem?

Just be aware that if there are issues with the vehicle, the dealer needs to have an opportunity to fix it themselves and that distance becomes a huge hurdle.
Better to buy local if you can, it must be something special to consider buying from a dealer so far away.
Good point regarding distance being issue if I need dealer to sort any issues. Better to buy local if you can, it must be something special to consider buying from a dealer so far away.
It’s nothing special, but hard to find.
We are looking for a petrol, automatic 7 seater with reversing camera. Ideally newer than 2018. Budget around £28k.

Bought a 2nd car for my wife online recently, was a very good buying experience, much better than most I have had in a showroom
Good to hear. How did you manage to paperwork? Also did you transfer funds before receiving the car?

That is exactly what puts me off distance buying - unless you have the time, you effectively have to write off any after care.Better to buy local if you can, it must be something special to consider buying from a dealer so far away.
I'm in the SE and accept that I'll have to pay more because I haven't the time to faff around up and down the country.
Main dealer?
I have had a few delivered via main dealers too far to go and view.
In the main good experience - last one wasnt so good and a VW turned up with some bodywork issues and other gremlins. VW dealerships co-ordinated tho and the outcome was satisfactory.
Think next time I would get someone to swing by at least to put eyes on a car tho.

Afraid not. It's an independant dealership, but has pretty good AT reviews.I have had a few delivered via main dealers too far to go and view.

Some food for thought here, I would try to find something local if possible.

Just for info , i done the same online delivery order from a Mercedes used dealer Milton Keynes , they delivered to me a mini countryman with faulty engine(smoke exhaust/engine light) from the first day of use .
Collected back and deposit refunded , but i just lost time and some money (insurance , tax ) refund later ..
so my next one will be physical check and order normally

You need to do some research but I believe if everything about the sale is completed online and you don't go see it, then distance selling regulations apply and you can send it back. Its why those car adverts say you get 14 days, its not because they want to its because they have to and use it as a selling perk.

It doesnt bother me in the slightest but I tend to dig a bit deeper on the car if wary. Some food for thought here, I would try to find something local if possible.
Generally distance buying you tend to get a feel for those who are used to dealing with it and are genuine.
My last 3 cars have been distance purchases and mostly ok - but then again local stock is so bad my way I wont buy around here.
