I've just imported a Splitty from Brazil and would like to take it to an event in a couple of weeks. I know how to register in the UK and know that I won't get the registration back from the DVLA in time. Is there a way I can legally use it on the UK roads without the uk registration assuming I can sort out all the other legalities (i.e. road worthiness, insurance etc)?

I've tried google but all i find is the process for registration

According to the guidance notes I received when I registered mine, then no it is illegal to use until registered.

I've been waiting 3 months so far for DVLA to process mine. They're on strike, so it'll take a while unfortunately.

Thanks, I was hoping that there was a work around other than trailering it which is a bit excessive as the event is less than a mile away, ah well!

Less than a mile? Just drive it there

Yeah I have considered that but there will be plenty of the boys in blue around so not sure it's worth the risk

Could you drive it the day before and leave it there. Ask the organisers

That might be worth a go but I'm pretty sure they set up/ clear everything on the day, FYI the event is Classics on the Common, Harpenden on 22nd.

You can insure a vehicle on its chassis number prior to registration.

AFAIK the only lawful excuse for driving it under such circumstances is to or from a pre-booked MoT. Do with that information what you will ;-)

Can you get it MOT'd & insured against the VIN number and use it whilst the DVLA registration is being processed?
