Yes, I have had a search, but many of the threads are old and recommend wildly impractical cars.
My poor old '08 Zafira is probably coming to the end of its life. Boring, but it held the 4 year old, my wife and had loads of boot space. I could change his clothes with him rolling around in the back.
Now I don't drive much, work is a 20 minute walk away. However, I often do some private work in the evenings and take the kid out on weekends. Maybe I do about 100 miles per week. Which is also about its top speed. My wife has her own little car, which she likes just so. It's clean and has a diamante steering wheel. I shaved with it one morning, it's that sketchy.
I do need a car about the £6k mark that:
Isn't diesel.
Reliable.
A boot big enough to fit an adult road bike and a child's bike. I can remove the wheels from the adult bike if necessary.
Can have a roof bars mounted. We go kayaking. I guess I can get bike mounts for that anyhow.
Oh, holds a rapidly growing kid, his 5 year old buddy and occasionally my wife.
Now I understand tastes have changed since the Zafira commanded looks of envy, but it served me well. It didn't do bad mileage, if I remembered to take the weird handbrake off.
So, any suggestions? It really must resist Cheeto dust, Capri-Sun spillages and so on.

Oh, yes, ideally it'd hold about 3 guitars and amps as well. The kid won't be present in this situation, but two adults will be. The drummer can sort themself out.

Vauxhall insignia 2.0T or 1.8NA.
Mondeo 2.0NA or 2.0t (that will be powershift only) or if you can find one best of all would be 2.5t ??

Bloke down the road who plays in a band has a Skoda Superb estate he is very happy with - you can get them with a 1.8t assuming you don't fancy the 3.6V6.
Passat with the 2.0t Golf GTi engine.
Another Zafira with the 1.8NA or the 1.4T. Or the 2.0T!
Something like an RX400H maybe if the boot is big enough?
Last of the line Saab 9-5 estate. Ideally manual Aero of course. Very old fashioned looking now and the Dame Edna did it no favours.
Suspect an Insignia 1.8NA offers the best VFM in terms of getting the newest car.

Honda Civic Tourer 1.8 added to list. Slightly Marmite styling.
