Powerful and comfortable for 6"4 under £10k
Discussion
I'm a 6"4 male in the UK looking for a car better suited to my height (I currently drive a FN2 Civic Type R), I've been looking around but struggling to find something suitable for me.
I'm 22 years old so I need something that doesn't cost an arm to repair/service so that rules out BMW, Mercedes, Audi (unless you guys think otherwise?),
Power wise I'm looking for sub 7 second 0-60 and would prefer a petrol engine, hopefully with tax less than £400, interior quality must be nice too but I'm not too bothered about Bluetooth as long as the car has FM radio for a transmitter.
The search has led me to look at Infiniti hybrids but I don't know much about them, mainly costs and reliability.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all

Supposedly the mk2 Mazda MX-5 was designed to take someone with a maximum height of 6'4!
Insurance could be a bit tasty at 22 years old, I suggest you get some quotes from price comparison sites before proceeding

This will seem odd, but try a Mini Clubman Cooper S, i'm the same height and find it suits me well, you won't get anyone behind me but i find it a lot more comfortable then any mid sized Golf - having said that my Leon Cupra was comfortable but the driving position in the Mini is way better. Or try and find a Focus ST with cloth Recaros. Or a C30 T5

Adverts for Mercedes and bmw, with no reasoning why they might actually be affordable… great.

Although to be fair the average car buyer in this country are so German obsessed most cars that fit the criteria were never released here (Hyundai Genesis Couple, Lexus is350 come to mind)
That said, how bad are the 3 series cars compared to my Civic Type R? I recently had to do a service, tyres, rear discs+pads, and front shocks which came to over £1k but have no idea if thats considered expensive compared to other cars?

Not a fan of Mini cars (sorry!)Focus ST is a Good shout, its added to the list, shame there is no Auto for that car as I'm not completely sure if I want a manual again

The Lexus interests me but I've heard hybrid models are insanely expensive to run with age as hybrids are hard to work on and eventually the battery needs replacing which can be multiple thousands... Have a look at JDM stuff.
I had a Subaru Legacy 2.0GT twinscroll wagon and fitted in just fine (6'4") (Forester was too small), ticks most the rest of your boxes as well, interior may be considered a bit basic but well put together, comfortably under budget.
Lots of other interesting stuff available

Leggy 10+ year old 330i coupes worth £10k now? absolute madness. If these are the options, i'd wait a year or so until prices normalise rather than these.

The diesel version comes as an auto but may not be within budget, also do your homework as the powershift gearbox does crap itselfFocus ST is a Good shout, its added to the list, shame there is no Auto for that car as I'm not completely sure if I want a manual again
BMW 125i is nice too but again budget may be an issue.

For the simple reason that the OP was looking for a car for a tall'ish frame, seeing as the OP is running an Type R already so running a 330i (which would cost no more than the 370Z I also listed) shouldn't be more than the Civic.“that doesn't cost an arm to repair/service so that rules out BMW, Mercedes, Audi (unless you guys think otherwise?)”

Can you tell me why the BMW will be more to run?
The Mercedes will be more because the Road Tax costs. but again actual running costs will be similar, the OP asked for a powerful comfortable car & the cars listed above tick that breif.
Now I'd like to hear what you suggest?

Plenty of old Lexus hybrids wafting around. Yes, there are some horror stories, but mostly you've got a bunch of satisfied customers. Note that if spend £59 a year at Lexus and get the hybrid health check, they extend the hybrid battery warranty for another year, until the car reaches 15 year old. Does any other manufacturer offer that much peace of mind on a used hybrid?

Quite a number of Lexus specialists garages around if you want to avoid main dealer pricing for servicing and repairs

OP if you'd had to get the same (Front Sachs Shocks x2 £280 Brembo Rear Discs & Pads £130 X2 Toyo Proxes 265/30/19 £260 & a service) done on an E Class you'd be at looking at a rough cost of around £1300 inc VAT.
So as you can see running costs aren't that far apart.
This is super helpful thank you!So as you can see running costs aren't that far apart.
So is an E class considered cheaper to run as far as Mercedes go? How does the E93 3 series cars do for this too? Honestly these cars look great and have amazing engines but I'm super scared of potential repair bills

I'm 6ft4 and drove a Mk2 MX-5 as a second car for weekends etc so a 6ft4 person can drive it but it's not too comfortable for daily use, its hard work getting in and out of with the roof on and it's a little cramped inside but it can be done and I loved mine. I do think about buying another but probably a Mk3 which is far more spacious. Edited by Jamescrs on Monday 6th September 15:25

No not particularly cheap but Mercedes share a lot of parts across their ranges so parts costs are sensible in comparison to a halo model like a Type R.So is an E class considered cheaper to run as far as Mercedes go? Something like an E350/500 are just cooking models in the range as such will have generic parts.
Another one worth keeping an eye out for is the G37 Coupe, it's basically a 2+2 version of the 370Z they're are none in budget at the moment but keep an eye out.

I'll do research into the eclass Mercs, the infiiti Coupe is a car I am fond of but yeah it's pretty rare here so unlikely to find one 😀 Something like an E350/500 are just cooking models in the range as such will have generic parts.

A friend of mine also suggested the E90 diesels, he suggested a 2010 320d or 25d as they have insane power after a remap, does anyone know much about these? Common issues, service costs, repairs etc?
