Looking for a run around car for under £3k. Will do a 70 mile round trip in this car daily.

Which car will be the best and the most trouble free?

It depends on your type of journey? Motorway/A/B/Road

Any specific type of car?

Without any specifics I'd say a CLK320 cdi ticks a lot of boxes a remapped one will average 45-47mpg tank to tank, make sure the gearbox service has been done if not knock £300 off the price.

The 220 is also an option & will land you a newer car fuel wise you'll be 2-3 mpg better off real world:

CLC220 cdi Sport

The above have bulletproof drivetrains & will see you right for quite a few years whilst making journeys a breeze.

Other options:

2.0d Astra GTC SRI 160

Volvo C30 R Design 140

If you want a fun steer then the Megane RS dci 175 is the clear winner:

Or the newer coupe in GT spec is a good call:

Surely the answer is the best car you can find for £3k.

I'd be buying on condition rather than a specific make and model.
A crap car is a crap car no matter what badge us stuck on the bonnet
